Just wondering if anyone has retrofitted a carbureted 3000 mule (v-twin 620cc engine) with the fuel injection goodies. I need a good anchor for my two man boat and since thats about all my carburetor is good for I thought about trying this. I know a new carb is close to $300 so how much for the efi parts?

I would stick with the carburetor, properly set up it is bulletproof as long as the fuel is kept clean and is either fresh or preserved. Bad gasoline is the bane of all the ATV and UTV's anymore. It goes south in as few as a few weeks, and most people do not use their Mules enough to run a tank out that fast. Use of a good preservative is critical now days.

The EFI is next generation and even more sensitive to fuel quality than the carb. If you are having carb problems I guarantee you will have expensive EFI troubles in spades, not to mention enough cost in the conversion that it would be cheaper to just buy a new Mule.

I have a neighbor that has already fouled his new 4010 by grabbing a can with couple month old gasoline and filling up when he ran it dry. He conked out the next day after it set overnight and now has a problem that is going to cost bucks to fix. It is not a warranty issue when you use bad fuel.

So, what is it about the fuel that makes it go "bad"?

I've been using some old but stabil-ized gas and it seems to run good in my mower, gen, saws, pressure washer and mule.

Just wondering.....


Oh, I don't know how old it is, but it was bought outside of a marina and was $1.59 a gallon... I've been sucking it out of the boat all summer with a siphon pump. Used about 30 gallons of the stuff so far....

Non-stabilized gasoline begins to oxidize within two to three weeks, and starts to form varnish that will cling to fuel tanks, lines, and injection systems; and it creates a rudimentary form of polymer chains that congeal to form sludge.

Gasoline with a good stabilizer is good for a year or more, if PRI-G is used it seems to be good for several years.

Oxygenated gasoline, the stuff with ethanol alcohol added, does the same as non-oxygenated gasoline, but also pulls water from the atmosphere to form acids which eat aluminum, resins used in many plastics and fiberglass, and most gasket materials.

I use a product by the name or PRI-G in all my bulk gasoline, and in vehicles and power equipment that sets for more than a few days.

I checked my records and it was 2002 when the boat was filled (78 gal) with gas prior to storage. I did use a qt of stabil in the gas. Must have worked as it still gets the job done 6 years later.
