I purchased a 300 Bayou earlier this year, and realized when I bought it , that the carb needed rebuilding. I tried to clean the carb, but still wouldn't run right, so I bought the CVK carb from wincycles out of Miami.
I installed it this pat weekend and am still having problems. Does anyone have any experience with this carb, that can help me? Or maybe I am overlooking something else. I opened the drain on the carb to make sure gas is getting to it..and it is. I tested the spark with a spark tester, and have a good looking spark. But when I try to start it, it just turns over and does not sound like it is even trying to fire... |

hello and welcome to the forum, well let see did it run before you put the other carb on ?but but the sounds of what is goin on you may have to adjust your valve lash ,and or do a compression test first before goin any father to get base started. and then we wil go from there.
it should have over 120 psi on the comp test any lower itll not run properly .if it has over 120psi then id check the timein and the timing gears to make sure the key way on the lower gear. an easy way to check this is remove the valave covers and turn the motor over and see if the rocker arms are moveing. if they are then id say your ok there. get a manual and adjust the valve lash to specs .a valve that is to tight will cause a no start and a sound like no fire in the cylinder hope this may guide you in the right direction of repairs -corey- Last edited by 86klf300guy : 11-19-2008 at 07:14 PM. |

When I bought the quad earlier this year, it would start, but had to stay on choke for a very long time, say 5-10 minutes before it would run right. Each time I fired it up, it seemed to get worse and worse, so I pulled the carb, and cleaned the jets, and float. Put the carb back on, and after several attempts, it finally started and ran good. I fired it up almost every night for the next few days, and it started easily on the first bump of the starter.
Then when I went to load it up for opening weekend of hunting, it wouldn't start at all. I figured the carb was bad again, and doing a search on here led me to the CVK carb. I bought it, installed it, and when I first went to fire it up, it made a few attempts, but didn't seem to want to stay running. As long as I held the start button in, it would fire. Then after 4 or 5 tries, it finally quit trying to run completely. That is where I am right now! I will check the compression and post up my findings as soon as I can. Thanks! |

oh ok ,now i got a handle on what it may be. you say you replace the carb with a new one,did you adjust the air flow screw.most of the time when you get a new carb it is set at a basic setting.you will have to fine tune it to your machine.but what i would if it was mine,i would remove the fuel petcok and drain the tank out.then take the petcok apart and clean it real good .there is a filter on the petcok assembly that plugs up with debris.I would also take denatured alcohol and rinse out the tank, due to sediment will settle in the corners of the tank and break free and plug up the works again.
1 more question for you. Is the carb brand new or used? at any rate still pull the carb apart and clean it out .and check to make sure the float is set correctly and everything is in there that is supposed to be in there. Can you clean that old carb out again?let it soak over night in seafoam cleaner and use a little air pressure to blow out all passages . i think you will find you have a blocked or restricted petcok, filter ,after you clean the petcok and the tank and the carb make sure you put fresh filtered gas back in the tank. When i put gas in my machine i use a filter system that i made up from sum auto fuel filters. i cut apart a auto filter and put it in a old spray bottle that i cut the bottom out of.then i put the filter in the spray bottle and start pourin in the fuel. plus i also have a inline fuel filter for extra protection. Oh yeah i forgot to mention, that fuel filter i made i also use that to filter the gas while at the gas station fillin up the cans. keep us posted on your findings -corey- oh yeah one more question is that the right carb for that machine? by that i mean like jet sizes and float hieghts. oh yea by the way you can use the filtering design i will grant passage this time lol .but it seems to work really well for me. i have not rebuilt my carb in 2 years now.still knockin on wood lol. well that is good compression! no worrys there.
now to the carb i caught that about the carb,i still think inbreading parts is wrong.you should clean the original again and clean the tank as posted before.got to think it ran before than went to crap.....stop and think about that...the tank has crap in it and is flowin or lack of flow in to the carb. try to clean out that old carb and clean the tank and the petcok assembly real well and see were that takes you.that new carb may not be jetted correctly and or set properly for your machine.honda uses a diiferent jetttin and float hieghts etc. keep us posted on what you find -corey- |
