Default oil sight-glass

I recently bought a 1990 bayou 220 for 150 bucks, it had been sitting for 2 years, i went there and put some fresh gas in it, it started on the first pull. I've already done a bunch to it, including an oil change. This brings me to my problem. Before, with the old oil in it the sight glass would stay level even while running, but now with a new filter and a little over 2 quarts of oil, when i start it, the sight glass shows empty, and it only shows full again after sitting over night. Is this normal?

yep mine does, after about 20 min or so its at the low mark, takes a little better than an hour to come up to the full mark. I'm using sae 30, might go a little faster w/ 10w30, or 10w40

Thanks for the input, the only thing that i was realy worried bout is that mine never even goes back up to the full mark, it just barely goes back into the low safe mark. I used 10w40. Ive heard some people use 2.5 quarts, i only put in a little over 2 quarts. I just dont want to over fill it.
