Default Chain for VN800 mechanical advice

I have been told by my local motorcycle repairer that the chain on my VN800 needs replacing as it has worn unevenley. He has told me that it wiould cost about £135 including labour to install a DID chain and sprockets.

Does this sound about right? Are DID chains any good? he said that Kawasaki Chain and sprockets would cost £250 upwards.

D.I.D chains are fine, but the price he's quoting you sounds a bit cheap considering he's doing the labor. As far as the sprockets go just make sure he's not using an alum. rear sprocket for that price (won't last) I looked at your post again ,is the price your quoting in euro's? If thats the case I'm not sure what that equates to no a days (seems to change daily)

If thats the case then the price you got sounds about right considering it's also includes installation.

While your at it - have you thoght about changing the tooth ratio of your sprockets to lower the RPM's - I did this on my VN800 and it is an amazing difference - I THINK the ratio I went to was 17/38? but I can't remember - if you want, research it and others will tell you the perfect ratio for the 800's - you won't be disappointed. and yeah, definately don't get an aluminum sprocket.

$500 for chain and sprockets? Sounds INSANELY high to me! You can get a chain/sprocket set for less than $100! Even if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, $400 in labour?!

Let us know what you decide... there are a lot of 800-er's on here that can walk you through it if you get adventurous enough to try!

And again, don't go aluminum! The ratio that v800c is talking about it dead on for reducing buzz at highway speed, at 17/38, or the vitually identical ratio of 18/40...

    Keep us updated!
