    Default Luggage racks

Any one know if I can get any type of luggage rack for the back of the 800 or does it have to be a Kawi product?

I just want it to hold the Givi top box. It doesn't need to be pretty, or flashy, just needs to bolt on.

    any suggestions?

Also, do I have to have a back rest to bolt on a luggage rack?

Anyone out there got the bolt hole size / spacing handy?

Do you have a sissy bar? If so how about this?

    Nope, no sissy bar...

I don't want to put a back rest / sissy bar or anything else on the bike.

That rack looks good. What is it make / model?
    Will it bolt up?

That rack is from MC enterprises. Unfortunately you need a sissy bar to use it. I have a Touring rack from them that does not hook onto the sisybar but unfortunatley they do not make one for your bike.

Cobra makes a luggage rack that you do not need a sissy bar.

    Thanks,

How do I find that model? I wouldn't know one luggage rack from another. I know that a few bike shops have tried to convince me that I have to spend $100's, and I have to buy both the back rest and the luggage rack. They are trying to convince me that I have to have a back rest to hold the luggage rack on

I will buy new if I have to...but I'm looking for something to just do the job..

You might also want to look at ebay. Could probably either find what you want, or get a "cheap" sissy bar and rack, then use the side plates and rack and sell the bar....

Check ebay. You dont need the sissy bar, but you do need the sissy bar support brackets. The same brackets are used for both the sissy bar and luggage rack. They may be hard to find individually, but this includes a pictures of them:

Cool, Thanks for the ideas and pics!

The bike shop told me I have to have a backrest...I knew he was full of hooey after talking to the Experts....You GUYS!!

So now that I've inspected the situation....

where does the license plate go when you put a luggage rack on?
    Is there enough space?
I want to stick a Givi box on top of the rack, and to my eye there doesn't seem to be enough room for that to clear.

What have you guys done when you've put on a luggage rack?

The rack will fit over the license plate. Here is a decent pic of how it will fit on your 800 classic:

    Thanks! Great pic!

Do you have the funny extra plastic that sticks out over the top of the plate?
Or do I need to shave that off?

Hmmm...I dont know about any funny extra plastic, but I'm pretty sure I do not have that. My license plate bracket is just a recessed plastic holder just barely bigger than the plate itself. It may not be stock though.

Mine has about 2 inches of extra plastic sticking up above the plate. Far as I know it's a stock item.

Guess the question is what is the clearance between the plate and the luggage rack?

If you put things on top of it...ie..luggage
    Do you feel it there?
    Does the bike get un-wieldy?

Carlo has a cool one too, and he has no sissy bar...just a solo rider seat.

    Another pic:

Looks like about 2 inches of clearance between the top and the plate and the rack. I can't picture the extra plastic piece you are describing above your plate.

As far as feeling the weight of luggage...I can't really say. The only thing I have carried on that rack to date is my lunch box!

Nice pics!! LOVE the lowered turn signals

Here's a pic, you can see the black plastic about the licence plate. Seems like it would be in the way of the luggage rack.

That must be something new. I would modify the license plate bracket to fit the rack, rather than trying to find a rack that will work with the license plate bracket

I agree Be far easier to cut off the extending plastic. Just haven't had a reason to yet!

Doe anyone else have a luggage rack that they use?

How do you find it for carrying heavy items?

I'm going to mount a Givi box, and fill it

Do you have a back seat? I actually ride single seat and have a rack on the back that I can use as a luggage rack or in a pinch put a pad on as a 2nd seat.

sorry not the best pic but gives you an idea

    Hmmmm....like the look of that!!

How comfy is the "pad" you use on the 2nd seat area? I double my 75 yr old mother...she likes her comfort She's a real trouper, been on the back for a full days riding, and loves it!
