Default Thinking about trading my 1500 for a meanie

All this talk about meanies is getting to me. Today I went to the dealer to get a lightbulb, and there was a meanie on the showroom. I spent quite a bit of time looking at it. I'm starting to feel like I made a mistake getting the 1500. The problem is that, when I was looking for a bike, I went to a lot of dealers and only one had a meanie on the floor. It was all modded out--custom paint, pipes, air cleaner, etc.--so it was pricey. A lot more than the MSRP. So I didn't really look at it that much, and that was back before I started spending such inordinate amount of time on this board. I'd already owned an 800 and I knew the I liked the classic Vulcan, so I never really looked any further.

So now I'm getting the meanie bug (Joy, I think you might be responsible ).
I started talking about it a bit to hubby tonight. He told me (surprise, surprise) that he was surprised I wasn't more interested in the meanie we saw that day. But, you see, I didn't want to buy an expensive bike, but--oddly enough--he didn't have any such reservations. I should have been a big spender like him, but I'm always trying to save money.

So, anyway, I'm going to keep talking it up and maybe take him to the dealer to check out the bike at the local dealer. I'd like to take it for a test ride, too. I called a bunch of regional dealers (Denver, Boulder, etc.) and none of them even had a meanie on the floor! But one dealer took my name and number and they're going to query the nationwide database of dealers they do trades with, to see if anyone of them have one. They'll truck it here if I want it.

Wish me luck!

Can't say I blame you. Another one falls for the sexy lines of the sport cruiser. They look good on the road but you know your gonna have to hook it up with pipes, a small deflector shield, forward controls, pullback risers......where oh where will it end.

I've always liked the electric lime kawasaki green on the 04's

I know, Dave, I know. But my hubby's bike is super fast and he likes to ride fast. I think I could keep up with him better on a meanie. Plus, I just like the way it looks. And its specs are really awesome.

Hey, Annie, if you decide you really do want a 1500 Classic, want to make a deal?

Last time I was in the stealership here in town they had 2 meanies, but that was 2-3 weeks ago & who knows if they still have them or not. Have no idea if they are open thisweekend but will try to make a run downtown & check to see if they are & what they have in stock.

They also had a really sweet 2000 that had a V&H exhaust, Mustang seat and other goodies

Maybe I'll head up there myself. Thanks, Joe. I'll be doing a lot of riding the next three days, anyway. Might as well head up to Cheyenne!

Tried calling them this morning & nobody answered the phone. However, according to the add in the phone book they are open from 0800-1300 on Sat. Thier phone # is 307-632-3171.

If I can scam time away from the 12 year old daughters B-day party I'll slip down before 1300 & see if they are open & what they have.

If ya head up this way let me know. I25 is one lane from the border to town & possibly South of the border as well but we've not been that way is a while to check it out.

Thanks, Joe.

Hubby and I had a talk last night. He doesn't want me to think about buying a new bike right now because he doesn't think they'll give me enough on my trade in. (I tried not to remind him that he lost $3,000 on his trade-in--only a couple of months after he bought it--and he bought a brand new bike.) Ah well... I'm ging to keep my eyes open for a used one, although I think they're going to be hard to come by. I'll give some of the dealers my name so they can call me in case on happens to come in.

Wish me luck!

Julie, I have a brilliant idea. you say your husband is concerned about you trading in the 1500. Well I say he is right. You need to listen to the man, he is a genius. What needs to happen, is that he should trade his bike in on the Meanie! Then he can ride the 1500, and you get to have MS. Man, sometimes I even amaze myself. No need to thank me. It's ok.

That is a riot! I thought, "ooh I should trade with her" when I read your first post... (just now) then scrolled and saw the note to me!!

Well... let me mull this over... It seems like the MS is a hard bike to fit stuff on... I am going to the RRR in June... I need luggage... this is driving me crazy... It just doesn't feel like a long distance bike...

The grass is always greener...

Well, in my humble opinion, I think we (annie and I) have the best of both worlds...On our long trip we can trade off....I get to ride the sporty, sexy, orange Streak, and she gets to ride the Hot, Hot, Hot, black/chome 1500... Just keep switching...who's better than us???

ha! Just kidding...but, it's true

Ok... but I am gonna need to invest in some "stuff".

Jukief... Have u done all the "modding" you can do to get it to move quicker? I think there is nothing like a Classic. I should have kept my 800 and modified it... Oh I don't know... I am always dissatisfied! ha! Neurotic!
I need to enjoy everything I have... I have sooooo much to be grateful for!

Annie, I don't feel like I've been as good of a friend as I should have it sounds, in recommending the Meanstreak. Tell ya what. I'll make it up to ya. You just throw me the keys, and I'll help ya out with that little dilemma you've got. See, now wasn't that easy?! Now go buy that Classic you want, and we'll both be happy girls!

Jules, I will take full responsibility! Girl, keep looking, and check ebay often-often! I've seen a few on there, and I had to stop myself because I get too worked up when I see them.
You can bet as soon as my sales quota with the husband is met and we've got everything paid off, I'm marching my bootie down to the dealership and hand over the cash! I am going crazy, crazy talking about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easy Dawn... It was a joke. I've got no intentions of riding all the way to AZ to take her keys...

Life is short, live for today and ride what you want. If your not happy with your bike and you have the means to get what you really want...got for it. I had only ridden my 800b for 1 full season before I knew I had to have a MS.

His FJR is what about 150 hp?? Going from the a 1500 classic to a 1600 meanie will give you more torque and better cornering, but he's still going to have twice the horsepower you do
