Lightbulb Wrecked 07 MS SE project has begun!

    Hi Everyone,

Just purchased a wonderful "salvage" wrecked bike from ebay - was looking for a project - and boy did I find it. I am located in CT - bike is being shipped here as we speak to begin its reconditioning.

Apparently the bike was in a bump and slide accident - ie engine, frame, forks, all fine. Lots of body damage to many areas of the bike.

So heres my thought - and if im posting this in the wrong place please let me know - I am going to post the before picks and ongoing ones as I make the changes! Think this will keep me excited and motivated.

Also - i am looking for input - as this is the first kawasaki/MS SE I have owned I am open to ANY opinions or suggestions you may have. First priority is to get it together and going. Then we work on replacement/repair of existing body damage. I am soooo excited to get started.

As you make suggestions, if you can include what you think the cost may be for your suggestions!

Thank you. I will post the condition with pictures when it gets here in a few days.

    David

hey David, welcome and congrats on your new purchase. definitely sounds like a great project as the Mean Streak is an awesome bike and there is potential to go a lot of different ways with it. i am going to move this thread to the cruiser section so it gets proper feedback though. there are a lot of us Meanie owners on here and a lot of nice modified Meanie's so i am sure there is plenty of advice out there for ya. my question to you, is what do you want the bike to look like when you are done ? are you shooting for a straight bar muscle bike look, or maybe a mini-ape cruiser kind of look, maybe a bobber. i think you get the idea, there are many ways to take it. maybe give us an idea on which direction you might be heading and we can run with it from there.

I think it would be awesome to make it a "naked" MS that would really get some stares. With a little tastefully applied neon ,and maybe even some nitrous that would be a wicked stoplight to stoplight ride.

The bike is coming from wisconsin. Thank to all. I will give some thought as to which direction I want to go - while waiting for the bike I will have to browse all the different styles of MS here on the sight.

    Sooooo excited!

Chewy - I am actually in Manchester as well! Small world.

So while I wait for the bike the shopping begins.

The frame is red with all the normal SE red and black that follows the standard package. I do have the opportunity to consider different paint - although I do not mind the original style. The gas tank will have to be replaced and so will the front frender - so different paint and designs are possible here. At first I wasnt sure about the "black" or "dark" bike style - but i must admit it is growing on me.

If you "custom everything" wild people want to check out your shelves for old OEM parts - I know some things I will have to look for to at least get the bike out and running for testing....

    Master Clutch Cylinder
    Front Fender
    Gas Tank
    Kickstand
    Mirrors
Red passenger Foot Bracket - right side
Gauges Assembly - banged up good but functions (so im told)

Already picked up a chrome OEM exhaust and a black OEM exhaust - hahahaha couldnt decide which way I am going to go and the price was reasonable. Picked up a Headlight and blinkers used OEM. Headlight is chrome for now.

So lets put dollars to the equation...

I was able to get the bike on ebay - 07 1600 Mean Streak Special Edition about 4k miles - $ 2700.00 - I think that was a great price - The bidding was fierce... hahahaha

    Parts so far - $ 270.00

    Oh yes - shipping - $ 398.00

Well if anyone has any of the above "extras" and is willing to be gentle on the price for me let me know.

Im now going to do the browse all your bikes thing and get even more excited!

Thanks to everyone for the support!! This bike will definitely outshine my 1983 cb550 Honda Nighthawk - got that one running a few years ago.

cause i saw his when i had my FJR and fell in love with it. don't think i even rode it that year, but seeing what he had done in person was enough to push me towards the Meanie.

First Two pics of the new project - not here yet - but have from the auction site. Lots of work to do!

    Damage

    Gas tank
    handle bars
    master clutch cylinder

    exhaust
    both air filter covers
    break pedal and bracket
    rear passenger peg bracket

Thanks Vulcan. They are out there. I watched ebay searching salvage or damaged motorcycles for months.

David, it will be fun to watch your progress on a fantastic project. You will really enjoy the Meanie. Great bike!

Hope you were able to make arrangements with my son on the tank. I checked with the dealer and they said all his parts are in and they should have him back up and running by Monday. Pretty cool and a fast repair too.

Best of luck with your project.....
