Default Quick questions about 800 classic !!

Hi Everyone

I have a few quick questions.

1) What is the highest speed which is comfortable for the Vtwin ?

2) Im getting a slight low noise coming from the gas tank cap which looks as if the air is trying to rush out. Any solutions ? Im using premium gas

3) Do the windshield lowers of a vulcan 2000 fit the 800 classic ?

Thanks in advance

If I haven't said it already welcome. now for the answers to your questions. (1)since your ride is an 800 the top cruising speed that your looking for is around 65 to 70 with the stock gearing., If you change it out to an 18/40 set up you'll drop the rpms by 450 an you'll pick up another 10 mph so you'll feel better at cruising around 70 to 80. Your 800 is a little differnt tnat the bigger cruisers in the sincew that its power band is above 4000 rpms don't worry it can handle it all day long an then some. (2) the whistle you hear coming from the cap is normal ,don't worry about it. theres a way to adjust the spring in your cap to eliminate the whistle if you want. Burning premium in your 800 is a waste of money ,not to mention that your probably gonna carbon up the inside big time if you keep burning it. 800's are probably the worst of the vulcan line up for carbon buildup. Can't help with the lower's question.

Thanks for the reply. Well Im lost now What is the stock gearing & what does it mean to change to an 18/40 set up & I'll drop the rpms by 450 ??? Sorry for my less knowledge about this.

About the whistle from the cap, can I adjust the spring easily ? Can I directly change to the Regular gas next time I visit a gas station or is there a procedure to do so ? I've been hearing about seafoam but not sure where to get it from & how to use it. help pls

Get Sea Foam at NAPA Auto Supply or what ever major auto supply is around your hood. Go to www.gadgetjq.com to fix the whistle. Cant help about the lowers.

The 18/40 set up Woody was talking about is the front and rear sprockets. The 800's come stock with front sprocket-17 tooth, rear sprocket-42 tooth. Going bigger on the front lowers the RPM's and going smaller on the rear will lower RPM's also.
I have changed just the front to the 18 tooth and could tell a difference at cruising speeds, now i'm considering changing the rear to the 40 tooth too.
Just start using regular the next time you fill up. I have seen seafoam at local auto parts stores, and have heard that NAPA carries it too. You can just add some to the gas tank.

Welcome to the forum Agnelo. Just as the other guys stated, changing the gearing of the bike helps alot. I also have just changed the front sprocket and am considering changing the rear. You can order the sprockets through Sprocket Specialist. All I can tell you is that the front 18 tooth sprocket is about $20 and it helps alot. Also, just run the 87 octane fuel. Theres no change in performance and it will save you some cash for other goodies. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Hi Angelo and welcome!

Did someone say SeaFoam?

Good stuff Maynard. Get it at Napa Auto Parts stores around here.

I have cruised 80-85 on the highway with the stock gearing it will run all day at that speed. But it is smoother with the stock gearing changed, I run a 38 tooth rear sprocket that helped lower the rpms and it doesn't rev as much at highway speeds. A must do modification in my opinion.
I run 87 octane no sense to run anything higher the motor was designed to run on 87.
As for the lowers they seem to be made bike specific, usually all add-ons are bike specific in they way they mount to the bike. I would say that the 2000 lowers would not go on the 800.

As far as the 18 th. so far the only place to get one of these is www.sprocketspecialists.com . the 38 or 40 th. you can get at a few aftermarket supply stores like dennis kirk or JP cycles. look under the FAQ. forum an you'll see the different rpm ranges with the different sprocket changes.

Woody did a great job of getting the different RPM vs speed ranges with the different gearing. He has been an asset to this forum especially for a good laugh and info on the 800's.

Don't get the big head Woody....LOL.. I don't brown nose often.

Thanks Woody & not forgetting all the others who help so much at the same time.

You're talking to the right people about the 800's!

I have not done the sprocket change on mine, but I can tell by the way the bike feels at 65+, I'll probably do it.

Whereabouts in Michigan are you located?

BTW, are there any long rides planned anywhere ? The other day I saw 107 ( I counted maybe incorrect ) Harleys motorcade passing through Farmington Hills in Michigan, a lot of noise for around 2-3 mins
Where is the Montana trip starting from & when, I do want to visit Montana sometime this year to meet a family.
