Default Making a sissy bar fit a 900

Hi all, I have a problem so to speak. I am poor and I have a girlfriend who likes to ride with me. Hence my need for a sissy bar. Just about all of the sissy bars for the 900 cost over $200. More than I can afford (meaning choosing between the sissy bar and rent). There are numerous sissy bars for other bike models for around $100(which I could swing and live off of ramen for a few days). Is there a way I can make it work?

Here is an example of a cheap sissy bar.

D2 Moto Honda Aero Sissy Bar

I am sure I can use a couple pieces of aluminum and a good drill to make them fit fairly easily. And I have some bolted on saddlebags to cover it up.

Does this sound like a good idea? Or am I going to be wasting some money?

Doesn't sound safe to me. Why don't you both split it?

http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...sissy-bar.html. Im sure youve probably seen this before but if you have tools its a great cheap alternative. Also if you do a search on sissy bars I remember someone here was welding some spacers onto the stock 900 sissy bar brackets to make a different bar work. If you have tools theres no limit, if not you must pay the man.

I have seen a few like that. I think they look pretty cool. The problem is I would end up having to buy a grinder and pay for the welds, which would cost more than the $100 sissy bar and some aluminum or stainless steel brackets.

Grinders are real cheap at harbor freight (like $10) and maybe there is a welder on this forum who lives close to you who can help. I know I would if I was close and Im always seeing people pull together here to make things happen. Just a suggestion. Also if you talk to a welder in a shop you can probably get him to throw down a couple beads for alot less than $100. Imho youd be wasting money trying to get the other one to fit, But then what do I know. Good luck with it.

I hadn't realized grinders were that cheap. I could always use a grinder. I'll check it out before making a decision. I did find a couple of backrests on ebay that are ending soon. I'll probably follow those as well.
