Default Bigger Nomad rear tire????

Has anyone put a bigger back tire on the nomad? What size? Any noticeable difference? I had heard this would fix the speedometer problem. Mine seems to be 5Mph slow according to several people. Any info please.

Not from experience but I have heard you can put a 180/70/16 on your Nomad rear wheel just fine and it will help correct your speedometer error, not completely, but part way. This size comes in radial design if you were wanting to convert. Keep in mind though this taller tire will change all your gearing slightly. May need a little more clutch slippage, say starting from a dead stop on a hill, riding two-up. Could be other pluses and minuses and hopefully others who have done this will chime in.

I just put a 180/70-16 tire on the rear, an Avon Cobra. 150/80-16 on the front, also an Avon Cobra.

I never really had a problem, I didn't think, with the original Bridgestones, but the Cobras handle MUCH better.

Going thru turns where I used to apply some countersteer pressure to get thru the turns, now I just sail right thru with no effort. They really handle the road smoothly.

Pre-Cobras, my speedo was off by exactly 10% according to my GPS. If 77 mph was indicated, 70 was what my GPS showed. After the Cobras, it's closer to 4-5%, close enough that I pretty much use that as the correct speed now, which is good because it gives me a margin of error.

Having had radials on the V2K and currently on the Meanie, I've noticed the Nomad handling just a little differently on the same roads. Wondered if it's the bias tires doing that and I've decided to try the very same tires--Avon Cobra radials in that very size for the rear.

Good to know you are liking them.

Some people actually put Automobile Radial Tires on the back. Is there one that can be used on a Nomad?

I took my wife for a ride today and had her check the speed with a GPS. As I read on this site, the speedometer is about 5 miles off.

Is the odeometer also inaccurate?
