Default Rain Gear Recommendations?

I need to get some good rain gear. Does anyone have any that they really love or really hate?

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks
Scott

I just have a cheap set of plastic paints and over jacket that work well. Make sure they come with reflective strips so headlights reflect in heavy rain.

My friend who became a dealer (wow, a generation or two earlier that would have a different connotation altogether...) recommended I look into winter ski gear. Says he has some great stuff that breathes well and provides solid protection from the elements...

Well, Scotty, I can tell you that I was definitely not happy with my Hefty bag with the 3 holes in it! It only lasted for about 2 miles, then . . . whoosh!!!!. . .
ripped right off my person!!! That leaves me in the same boat as you, looking again.

My Fieldsheer mesh jacket came with a raincoat that you wear over it. But I don't have anything for my legs. Guess I'll have to look for some cheap waterproof pants.

I have Tourmaster, and I do my best to never HAVE to use them. Recent trip to West Virginny had to. Really nice, zippers on bottom of pants leg let you put them on over MC boots, little suspenders that slip under the boot keep the pants leg down where it belongs. My pants have suspenders, very easy to adjust. Jacket is vented, don't overheat, at least while in motion. Also, recommend you buy some booties for the shoes, keeps 'em dry.

I have a jacket and pants combo from Nelson Riggs. They have several price points depending on how much you want to spend. I also bought a set of boot covers from Tour Master to keep the shoes dry. I also have a snap on face shield that I keep in my saddle bag that I put on my helmet when it rains. Total cost for rain protection less than $75.

Sounds like good stuff. Where did you buy it?

I went to Target and for about $40 got a pair of over-the-clothing gear from Eddie Bauer. It's durable, comfortable, and fits well. Have pulled it out a time or two. Rain doesn't keep me from riding...but oh how it can sting the face sometimes. Oh well...it beats most other things I could be doing!

Cheers,
John

I have some really good things about Frogg Toggs, and the prices are great.

Hey, my son uses Frogg Toggs on the golf course. He says they are great - lightweight, they breath, and keep you completely dry!

Yeah, but the Hefty bags are $5.99 for 15, and come in a neat pop-up box that fits just right in a saddlebag!!

Most jackets (except, obviously, the mesh ones) provide a good degree of weather protection, so I find that carrying a set of rain pants to be more important for me. Generally, when the price goes up, you get breathability, which could certainly contribute to your comfort level if riding in a summer rainstorm.

I just bought a rain suit, Monarch Pass from Moose Racing with eVENT tech. It's a little pricey but comes highly recomended. anyway I haven't got it yet so this is no help at all but I'm so excited about getting it!

I use a Cortech Tourmaster suit that I got at the dealer for about $60. I have used it only a couple times in both light rain and downpours, and it keeps me dry.

Thanks for all of the input, everyone.

I think I'll steer clear of the hefty bags. I like the looks of the Tourmaster stuff and it looks to be about the right price range. I just have to figure out what size to get for me and my wife. So far I haven't seen any kind of sizing chart and there aren’t a lot of places in my area that sell the stuff. I need to know what size to get to fit over my leather jacket. I guess I'll keep looking for sizing guidelines on line.

Dude!!!!! Did you buy the $300.00 rain coat?........Too rich for my blood. I'm looking to spend about a hundred bucks or less on the whole suit. That must be some really good gear. When you get it, let us all know how you like it.
