I'm kinda surprised at how many people voted no. I've never ridden a trike but I always figured 3 wheels would be better than a cage. Just personal preference I guess.

If, due to medical condition, it was no longer safe for me to operate on 2 wheels, then yes.

Not sure how it's getting old without dignity. I'd rather be in the wind on a trike than stuck in a cage, IMO.

I'm with Rich on this.

If I were to get a trike it would have to be one of the old-style car conversions.

No trike - when it's time to quit, it's time to quit.

Not trying to knock it... but all this talk of growing old and going to a trike got my mind to thinking of a really good commercial:

Introducing the Hoverround Trike conversion....

In most cases your insurance or medicare will pay for most or all of the cost. "We'll work with your insurance company, If there's a way, we'll find it!"

Thow in a couple old geezers in a group formation and you've got it made.

My initial reaction was no, absolutely not, never for a trike... though reading the posts has enlightened me as to reasons for owning a trike--primarily inability to ride a bike any longer. In my present condition, I would never own a trike.

Were I unable to ride a bike any longer, I am probably in the "classic convertible" camp.

Me to.

I sure would not mind a Mustang, or boxster convertible in my garage.

As for why I would choose a cage over a trike...

To me a trike is just a cage with all the downsides of a bike...everything a bike does well...a trike can't do. Everything a cage does well...a trike can't do. So for me, I'm all about taking advantage of all the things a cage does well...and just taking the top off. I understand some people want the feel of a bike...but for me, if it don't lean, I'm out.

Good points. When the time comes I guess I'll just have to get both! No reason to not have more than one option.

I own a Miata. It's about as close to a bike as a car can get. It lacks the wind in the face and open feeling that a bike has. I'd get a trike if I couldn't ride a bike. However it might be one like a Can-Am Spyder. My wife has her bike license and doesn't want to ride a 2 wheeler but would consider a trike. She likes the Can-Am concept.

Now, I have heard those Can-Am's do handle pretty well. I might consider one of those if I couldn't ride a bike...but the traditional, two wheels in the back concept, I don't think I'd do.

I once test rode a trike and ran over my own feet! If you put your feet down at a stop and don't pick them up in time the rear wheels will start to go over your feet.

I built a trike back in high school. Some punk stole it, stripped it, and burned what was left. I would love an old classic trike. As for the "trike kits" (or training wheels). All I have to say is, really? Those things look like you don't know how to ride so you got training wheels. Not worth anything in my opinion.
