Trike's handling is completely different... they certainly are not canyon carvers, even the Goldwings.
Their construction is split-personality. The front end wants to countersteer, but the rear end won't allow it, so you are forced to steer it like a cage.
This results in understeer and higher front tire wear.

If I am ever unable to ride on 2 wheels, I'll build one of the big "classic" 60s style trikes using a VW, Porche, or Corvair rear section.
LOL..amen. I saw one recently made from an MR2, it wasnt too bad actually. I still have daydreams about an old 1911 Model T delivery truck trike i saw as a kid.

THAT'S what I'm talking about!

It would be a blast to use a pancake 6 Offy or Porsche motor in a trike, but a flathead-8 sitting in front of the seat of a T-Bucket trike..... drool.....

No trike in my future, but if it came down to needing that third wheel, I would start with a Ural & sidecar! Check out these guys...

Got a guy in my area with one & he put a viper motor in it!!! Kinda overkill but damn impressive

i'd rather go with something like the can-am spyder. Thats a long way off hopefully for me, since i'm rather young, but i'll bet by the time i'm old enuf to think about moving to 3 wheels, the technologies of the "2 in the front 1 in the rear" style trikes will be crazy cool.

They're cool and all, but don't they top out at like 45mph?

Absolutely, YES! I would ride the trike.
In fact, I would probably have 2, because my wife said she would like one, but not at 30 g's.

If I had to change to a trike right now, I'd go with one of these:

Reverse Trike Motorcycle Club

They have some video on youtube: YouTube - F3 Adrenaline TriRod Motorcycles

Anyone tried out that new reverse trike called Can-Am Spyder? They were having demos at an AMA race I went to. They look cool enough, I would rather go with something like that then a regular trike.

Why did he leave the kickstand on the frame?

That is pretty cool...
A friend (Juiceman) has a one-off called the "Tryker" Reverse Trike Motorcycle Club
This thing is a freaking ROCKET! I don't know what he's done with the gearing on the final drive ratio, but it's much quicker than you would expect for a Virago 1100.

He's not kidding about dusting sporties in the mountains. The center of gravity is so low and the roll center so high that this thing would be impossible to flip unless you were to somehow get it into a sideways slide in dirt and then slide onto pavement with a lip at the edge.

Wait for the 1400

Seriously... it's only a 900 or 950, and weighs as much as a Vulcan 1600 Cruiser.

I've not rode one personally, but know a couple folks that have. They said its a blast, but (as one would assume) it does not handle anything like a motorcycle. They said they are fast as heck though. (these are cruiser people, not rocket riders) The stats on the spyder says it goes 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. I'd rather have the TriRod one i posted the video of previously over the spyder though.. but thats just me.

I would like a Spyder now. Almost have the wife convinced that it would a great winter ride, when I can't take the KLR.

I talked to a feller that restores old 1960's bikes. he had an accident 2 years ago and is paralyzed from the hip down, but keeps restoring. i asked him if he would ride a trike with hand controls?
he said nope. Said riding a motorcycle was an almost spiritual experience, and I wont replace that with any half assed version. Said it wasn't about the wind, or the lean, or speed, or the handling, or the smells, or the sights... it was about ALL of those things.
I haven't made up my mind on it, but i certainly respect the esteem he holds riding in.

"New" is a relative term. The Spyder was announced in February of 2007 and the 2008 model was produced and sold that year.
