40/40 feels best with my Metzeler's ME880's.

I ran 41/41 until one day I sat the bike in the drive way out in the sun for a few hours and then checked the presure. Front tire had 51 lbs in it. I now run what ever the manual recommends.

It's not a problem.
The sidewall pressure rating is the maximum COLD INFLATION pressure for the tire. If it's 51psi in the hot sun, the tire manufacturer has taken this into account.

Some tires need to be jacked to 80psi or higher to seat the bead... it's not going to explode on you. with a cold inflation at 42psi.

Service manual is a compromise between ride quality and tire life.

At 28/28, your tires are going to cup BADLY, resulting in handling problems, and the tread will be shot by 5,000 miles.

Amen Rich. I like a good new owner ran the recomened 28/30 or 32 I forget now on the OEM Dunlaps. 8k was all I got. Could have squeaked a few more out of the front. I changed to Pirellis how ever you spell them things. Anyways now run 34/36 solo and 36/38 2 up a bit more with more gear. Now have over 6500 on them and they look allmost as good as the day I put them on.

I ran 36/40 with the stock Dunlaps. Rear tire went 7524 miles. Wore uneven around the circumfrence of the tread. I had to do a smokey burn out (lots of water) to even out the tread!

I just put on a Metzler rear with 38 psi. Unsure of the "sweet spot" yet.
