Default Cobra Speedster Shorts and PCIII install

Yesterday the UPS guy dropped off a new DynoJet Power Commander to my work place. I was excited to get it and read through the directions at work. When I got home, there were the Cobra exhaust pipes (Speedster Shorts) at my front door. I wasn't expecting to get them so soon. I knew it was going to be a long night of working on my bike.

I went to work immediately. I took the seat and tank off. I was confused where the PCIII was going to plug in. I just looked at the injector for a while until I figured it out with the help of some minimal directions. I had a hard time finding the yellow/white wire that I needed to tap into for throttle position. I had to search on Google to find where to look. A call to DynoJet wasn't helpful. Once I had all the connections, I put the tank and seat back on and the bike started right up and the PCIII was working.

The pipes were a little harder to install. The stock setup came off pretty easily. I just started removing clamps and fasteners. The catalytic converter had two big bolts that I had to remove to get it out. The one on the left side was tough to get to. I had to remove the black frame on the rectifier to get to it. Putting on the Cobra exhaust took a lot of patience. The headers went on easy, but they didn't want to cooperate and go into the muffler part. It took a couple hours of cursing and sweating, but I eventually got them on.

When I took the muffler out of the box, I looked in it to see what kind of baffle is in it and it basically had none, so I thought, "uh oh." It's going to be loud as a %&$* and I was right. I need to find some kind of kit that I can use to put a baffle in there because now it's just straight pipes.

Cool, pretty much same set up as me. FYI, I cut the throttle sensor tap off and solderd the wire in line. There have been a few around here with issues with that wiretap.

Great looking bike.

Steve, they are looking good!

During my install, I had to fight with the rectifier bracket.. small space, big tool.. you guys know how it goes..

I am getting used to the sound too.
1st night my ears were ringing, after some hearing loss, they're not so bad.

I think my helmet's resonate frequency matches the exhaust.
My left ear seems to hear a lot more vroom in there.. but again, the hearing loss thing..

In another post Phatboy made a lot of sense:

Anyway.. I marbled at the same time, before I even started it for the first time with the new pipes. The intial start had a backfire, I assumed it was leftover air in the lines.. but it has not backfired since.

Ok, bye.
