My dealer didn't tell me what it would cost, only that he wanted to do the 600 mile check up. After that, I could do my own. Got 300 miles to go and I'll find out what it'll cost.

Default MAINTENENCE FEE

SPOK...THE FIRST SERVICE AND ALL TO FOLLOW ARE YOU RESPONSIBILITY. I FILE WARRANTY CLAIMS FOR A KAWASAKI DEALER AND ITS DEFINATELY ON YOU. SORRY

IF YOU HAPPEN TO DO THE OIL CHANGE ETC. YOURSELF PLEASE..... KEEP A RECORD AND RECEIPTS. ITS ALWAYS BEST TO HAVE A DEALER DO THE FIRST SERVICE BECAUSE IF THERE IS A WARRANTY ISSUE DOWN THE ROAD, YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING IT COVERED THAN WITHOUT A RECORD. I FILE WARRANTY CLAIMS AND THAT BEEN MY OBSERVATION.

Hey Carlo - The day you posted I had just left for San Diego, but no, it's been as bad or worse down in the southern part of the state. Record rainfall for May - almost now riding for me, but I'm getting out now before it starts again!

Hey, Freedom, I bet you had better weather in San Diego, huh?
I have my Nomad in the shop today (my shop) to do the 600 mile once over. Will do the engine oil, filter, and rear gear oil. Also take a close look at all fasteners, etc. I'll check that wire chaffing issue too, Bike. I've got the seat off checking for a good spot to put my trailer wire isolator and have wrung out the wires so I know where to tap (shop manual is not here yet, so I'm doing it the old way ). A side note: I was in shock when I took a wire off each of the IC solenoids and replaced the right side cover. NO MORE NIOSE! Those little ba$tiges do a hell of a lot of clattering! Now that it's warmer, I think I'll just leave them disconnected.....

Just an FYI, I specifically asked my dealer if there would be any warranty issues if I did my own first service and both people, the owner, and their main mechanic said no problem.
No it's not in writing but they both were very direct in saying no problem what so ever.

I just scheduled my 600 mile break in service for my VN900... the dealer told me it'd run me about $70 when I pick it back up. A friend just had the first service done on his Dyna.... $650...

I don't know what scares me worse,
The cost of a 600 mile check,
The fact that someone found a thread from 3 years ago,
Or, me reading it

You pay for it. They call it service maintenance! There is really no need to pay over $200 for that. When mine came up they wanted 200+ so I asked why and they said they will do a normal oil and filter change and any adjustmentes needed. So I said the bike is new only two months old and I only need the oil and filter change. They responded that if you don't do the 600 service as it says on the book then your warranty would be voided. So... I cancelled my 4 yr exted warranty!!! It has been now 8 months and there are no adjustments needed so far. I only paid less than $20 to get good oil and filter and it took me arround 15 minutes!
