Default It was a good day until the PC3 USB install. Yellow wire white stripe?

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but I've been reading the posts for months now. Loads of useful information I've picked up and thanks.

I have a 2003 Meanie that I bought new. Slowly but surely I've been adding different things to it. Today, I added stainless steel brake and clutch lines which really set the bike off nice and it went pretty smoothly.

I ordered a PC3 USB in May and decided to also install it today. I did everything by the book (instructions). Took the tank off and even soldered the gray wire to the Yellow Wire with White Stripe (Throttle Position sensor). When I fired up the bike it would not start and the FI light on the tach came on after about 5 seconds. I triple checked everything, took the tank on and off 3 or 4 times just to make sure everything on the PC3 was connected properly. I restored the bike back to stock and she fired right up. I have 2 questions if someone can answer them.

1-The Yellow Wire with White Stripe (Throttle Position sensor). I found this
wire on the right hand side (brake lever side) part of the bike. It was part of a connector near the the FRONT of the bike's HORIZONTAL part of the frame. Normally hidden by the tank. Is this the correct wire.? I tried Googling and checking multiple forums for it's location to no avail.

2-Has anyone else experienced this. ?

Any insight would be great before I call Dynojet on Monday.

Well 3 out 4 ain't bad. At least she runs I can take her for a ride on Sunday.

It was a good day after all.

Thanks.

I can't answer your questions, but I wanted to welcome you to the board. I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice.

Where's Vineland? I used to live in Rockland County, NY (Chestnut Ridge, to be exact), just over the border from NJ.

Hi NJMeanie,

Welcome to the forum! I installed the PCIII about a month or so ago. I don't remember well enough to answer your questions, but tomorrow I will check on my bike to see. I'll try to take some pics if possible. Sorry this was not an imidiate help, but maybe someone else will stop by and answer your questions...

I found the wire on the right side near the FI system. I was hidden under some hoses behind the right side backing plate of the air intake. Calling DynoJet was no help for me. They told me to look on the left side of the Mean Streak, when I couldn't find it the guy said to get a shop manual because they had no microfiche of the Mean Streak. I looked around on the net and found where to look.

Welcome first.
Second, always check the service manual. One thing I noticed about electrical accessories' instruction is that the color code from the instruction rarely matches the color code used on your specific bike. However, I just happened to have the service manual in front of me and I believe Y/W wire is the throttle sensor. Since I don't have a PC (I have a TFI), I can't help you any further.

I had a similar issue when installing mine last month. My problem, I mistakingly connected the PCIII ground wire to the wrong plug on the bike. Make sure your ground is installed correctly, from memory I believe it connects to one side of a dual female plug on the bike. (I had it connected to a female plug of a similar description, but not the correct dual plug)It sounds like you connected the throttle sensor wire right. Did you remove your tank for the install, it does make it a lot easier to find the correct wire? With the tank off, you can see the throttle sensor on the right side, and follow the wire from it.
Further to my ground wire mistake, I read the instructions thoroughly, and normally don't have too much trouble with these sort of things. It was an easy mistake, and once I realized it I felt a little foolish for not picking up on it sooner.

Like Trike says: be sure to follow the positive output wire from the TPS...my 1500 FI (2001 vintage) wire is yellow with a white stripe as you stated. It can be checked with the switch on. You should get 0.5 volts to 4.5 volts as you rotate the throttle. If you have entered the wrong harness, you may find other Y/W wires that have nothing to do with the TPS!

The throttle position sensor is directly behind the right side chrome air cleaner cover, hard to reach with your fingers. It's right on top of where a carbuerator would be. It sounds to me like you spliced the wrong wire.

Hey NJMeanie, I hope you get it figured out, i went with the techlusion set up. Well just give a jingle if you cant get it, let me know if you need a hand, Im in Jackson. I wonder if the unit is defective, or needs to be re-programmed. Maybe try to download a different map for it, something close to stock. Just a thought. Good Luck
