I have a '97 Classic that I've added both a HD batwing fairing and Nomad saddlebags. The fairing was not too bad but to get the Nomad bags on, I had to use the Nomad supports, Nomad exhaust, and Nomad backrest. If I had to do it all again.. I'd just get the Nomad to start with.

You could possibly find an older Nomad for around $5k. If you do get an older one, check with the buyer to see if they replaced the Plastic Oil Gear (POG) with the steel one. That was an issue on both early Classics and Nomads.

Good Luck.

Cory,

Tell me about your Tach... brand, wiring, what to look for... price.

I'm going to use smaller gauges for oil, but don't need a fuel gauge.

Any more stuff you have would be great! Like how to put the quadrillion parts together for the Harley headlight.

I need the very back bucket... but I have everything from there including the headlight springs and stuff. I am going to have such a time getting it altogether it seems.

The tach I am running now is the AutoMeter Pro-Cycle (Autometer Pro-Cycle Street Tachometer at BikeBandit.com). I am not happy with it because it has white lights and the others are all red, but the matching Stewart Warner tach (pictured) shorted out on my first trip with the fairing causing me to basically run on one cylinder, thankfully unplugging it from the coil got me running again. The Stewart Warner tach was around $130 I think, but I could only get it in a 10K model, no one could get the 8k one and the 10k one is kind of overkill. You need a tach that can do 1 PPR, the Stewart Warner one needed 2 PPR (basically would require a signal from both coils) and I think that had something to do with it's demise actually. It was only registering 1/2 the RPM that it should and the Barons adapter to allow me to connect it to both coils was not in yet. The AutoMeter tach you can calibrate it for a 1 PPR ignition by cutting a wire that comes out the back.

Did not really need the fuel gauge, but did not want to do oil and water, so needed something. A lot of people that have done the water temp have had leaks so I just did not even try it, but I also know successful installs so it is possible.

For the headlight I used the parts lists on my site to see the order for assembly. I found there are a few things I actually did not need. I compared mine to my riding buddies '09 Ultra and I did not use 67716-60A (headlamp door gasket), and 67780-60 (Spring, bottom). Could not figure out where these two parts went at all and after looking at the '09 saw it did not have them, so not sure how they would fit in. If you look at the parts diagram, the top spring snaps into the top of the headlamp door and then clips into the rear bucket assembly. The only way I could make that happen was to put the headlamp door on before I mounted the bucket in the fairing.

I am leaving on a weekend trip in a few hours now, but will be back this Sunday so PM me if you have questions on the assembly and I can snap some pictures of it in various states so you can see how it fits together.

I can't find any good pics about the top spring... the closest I could find was this. I'm getting close to finishing up as well.

Link did not work. The top spring clips into the headlight door and then there is a place to insert it in the top of the headlight bucket. Kind of acts like a hinge at the top of the headlight for the chrome 'headlight door'

Default fairing/bags.

Put a Premeux fairing on my 06 Nomad. Bolts on on 10 min. Factory colors matched perfectly, and can be shipped with or without stereo, speakers etc.

Takes awhile for shipping but worth the wait-no fabbing of mounts and all that hassle. They also do custom lowers and trunks. I bought used FLH Harley trunk, had it painted factory colors and installed with Wompus rack(made for Nomads) Hope this helps.

Hard bags and a fairing work pretty good with the Classic 1600 too...if I do say so myself. Here's mine.

I've done some more work on my bike... changed out a lot... working on the light bar now.

I didn't want to go all in with all the spots, but now that it looks like it'll work I'll have to find some of those.

Michael, bike looks great! I had to fab some brackets for my spots too, they would just fit without modification, but looked terrible before I moved them up and forward a bit. Headlight looks like you got all the bits in place !

Default fairing for V2K

nice pics on the fairings ! I'm in the process of checking out fairings for my 05 V2K. i've looked at some sites that have the kuyakyn airmaster and hoppe's quadzilla fairing but the obstacle i can see is that i will have to change out the big headlight for one off of a LT or Classic i beleive. anyone else contemplating a fairing for a V2K ?
