My "new" '94 Blazer has 225/75-15 tires. Stock size was 205/75-16, and the speedometer is dead-on with the GPS up to about 75, where it's reading 1-2mph slower than actual (1-2% error).
There's a 4.38% difference between the two tire circumferences, which means that with the stock tires, the speedo was between 2.4% and 3.4% faster than actual.

Whatever the actual reason, it's an issue common to all metric motorcycles.

Your absolutely right. You spend over 10 grand on a new bike and you can't get an accurate speedo. I'm not impressed at all with Kawasaki speedo's. FIX THEM!!!

Ophidia, you can use my GPS to see how much it's off if you want to.

When new tire time comes, we'll see.

I had my wife hold the GPS to check out the speed. It was about 10% off through all the speeds. Kawasaki claims this is within their tollerances. I told Kawasaki that if I had the same tollerances on products I produced I would be out of business. Same with the gas gauge not being correct some of the time.

back in 1986 i got a new vette. Car and Driver did a test and the speedo said 155 when the radar had 154.77....so WTF cant a motorcycle be as accuate in 2009...i still believe its because the safety conspiracy powers to be want you thining your going faster than you are. there is absolutely NO reason why there should be a 10%+ error in modern day electornic speedometers that arent even getting speed inputs from the wheels. AND if a speedo healer works, then WHY cant the factory "speedo heal" the bikes when designed. There is a PURPOSE to this!

mine is off about 6 mph. I've only used the gps on it once so I could be off some, but close enough for me.

That only fixes the speedo though. What about that first gear?

The gear ratio, is that what you are refering to?

Just how short first gear is. A big azz tire and euro gears have nearly fixed my speedo and I'm shifting a lot less. Never need to shift in a parking lot, and city speeds (30 - 40 mph) I never get past 3rd. Now I don't look for 6th gear till I'm doing 75 mph instead of 65. Of course theory has it that correcting the 10% speedo error with gearing means 10% ish HP loss too but the monster can take it.

My stealer tried to sell me a "healer" when I bought the bike. Seemed like a lot to spend when it corrects just part of the problem. IMO

The short first gear doesn't bother me as my previous bike had a short if not shorter a first gear.

I've got the front & rear pullies. GPS tells me that I'm about 1-2 MPH off on the highway. Close enough, that I have to REALLY pay attention to get a reading.
