Default Help VN 900 FI light on

Hi,

I am from Europe and here we might have some slightly different version of VN 900 than the USA one.

I changed my stock exhaust for Cobra Swept and installed FI 2000 fuel management system. However the FI lights on the dashboard is still on. Does any of you encountered similar problem and how you solved it.

Thanks
Atanas

I believe Europe version uses o2 sensors in the exhaust system, did you have to unplug any electrical connectors?

Yes I did. The dealer said that this might be the reason the FI light to be on, but he was not sure.

your dealer said that might be the reason?????

this is why a say dealer techs either need proper training or find another profession.

that is why your light is on.

Thanks a lot! The bike is running properly and the fuel consumption is OK. I just needed some reassurance that it is OK to continue like that.

my guess is if the computer looses signal from the o2 sensors the computer goes into some sort of fail safe and calculates o2 readings based on manifold pressure, engine temperature and vehicle speed (at least thats what cars do.

so what ya did is change your bike into a usa version with a bright red light.

it will probably run just fine except for the light.

You can also buy Oxigen sensor eliminator kit - this will disable the FI error on the console

You don't want to continue to ride without fixing it, because you would have no way of knowing if you have another problem with the engine that might be critical.

Insolemnix suggested a possible solution, that's another suggestion. Ay idea where I can get this Oxygen sensor from - I am from Bulgaria so I doubt I can get it here, so I will need somebody that offers international shipment.

I know, that's I am trying to find a solution. So far she performs OK and I passed 1200 and 5000 km service with the light on but the dealer told me he did not notice anything to woory about. Anyway I would like to solve the issue.

Just have a welding shop add a fitting to the pipes that matches the stock fitting and screw the stock sensor back in.
Parts may be scarce in Bulgaria, but I would imagine you have plenty of weldors.

Insolemnix being UK had the same problem and solved it rather simply - to plug a resistor in the sensor and thus to close the circuit and cheat the sensor rather than weld something on the cobra swept that I order from overseas. But as I have not done it and today came the suggestion of Valtran - another EU - I would like ot consider it.

i fitted the V&H slash cut staggards to my betterhalfs vn900 classic, same issue with the light on, and about two years on she's still riding with that light on, maybe one day we'll get around to sorting it.

yeah, the 330ohm resistor did the trick for me, and the FI light hasn't come on since...

One of the members from Newcastle (can't remember his name) called Cobra Tech and asked them about the O2 sensors, and after a long chat was told that a 330ohm resistor would do pretty much the same job as the O2 sensor eliminator if used in conjunction with the FI2000r fuel controller, as at that time Cobra were only making the O2 eliminators for HDs.

I've had no issues with mine and it's been running like this for over a year.

got your turn signal lenses yet Kev?

Mine came on and the dealer found there to be corrosion on the starter terminals. They said this can cause false readings to be sent to the sensor. Cleaned and lubricated the terminals and no more problems
