Default Got my first crash out of the way...

So, I was coming around a corner at my normal speed (but probably faster than I should be riding) and a car rolls into my path from a side road. I didn't have enough room to stop, so I decided to go around it on the left in the dirt. I didn't realize there was a little ditch on that side, so when I hit it I went flying. Car kept on going and the bike is not rideable. I tried to start it but I got a hole in my oil filter so oil would just spit out. I had to leave it at some guy's house. I told my wife when I first got it that I would get rid of it if I crashed. Now I'm wishing I didn't say that... I'm ok btw. Ankle and thigh hurts, but that's it. Just happy that's all that happened to me. I'll post some pics in a bit. I'm going to tow it to my brother's house tomorrow to see if we can do anything with it.

Glad you're alright! My heart's beating faster just reading your post!

Was the car making a right from the side road and getting onto the same road you were on?

Glad to hear it wasn't more serious for you, and +1 on hoping your wife forgot you made that comment.....not likely though, they seem to have great memories for things like that!

Just ask her if she would get rid of the car and never drive again if she got into an accident.

Wives never forget....................they keep this kind of information bottled up under pressure just waiting for the right moment to release it.

He was on my right making a left. If I went right I would have hit a lot of dirt and would have had to turn in it. I thought he would stop once he saw me heading left, but he didn't so I had to head left farther than I wanted too.

Wife did ask if I would be able to put on old handlebars back on it. She seems okay if I ride again, I just need to get better life insurance.

Exactly, "Honey, I stopped for a cup of coffee and someone ran over my bike while I was inside.."

I've got to wonder if those ape hangers adversely affected your ability to maneuver the bike better. My KZ came stock w mini-apehangers - I hated those things & threw them in the trash. Replacing them w some standard street bars was a real eye opener in regards to the handling of the bike.

+1 on the fact you're ok. Try to understand what you may have been able to do differently and get back on that horse.

Yeah, kind of kicking myself for trying to rush home and not going right instead.

About the ape hangers... got them for free, so no receipt. Bro gave them to me. I still have my wide Cobra bars, so I might switch back to them. I dropped off the bike at my bro's house today and he said it wasn't that bad (he's been in a couple of accidents himself). I think I'm going to paint it black and strip it down to make it more of a bobber.

Wow. That is a hell of a wreck. Good thinking, shooting to the left to avoid him. If not for the ditch you would have pulled off a brilliant escape!

Glad you're ok.
