Default Coolant Brand

When it is necessary to add coolant or change it out, what brand are you using, on my Honda cars I always use there brands of tranny fluid, coolant, p/s fluid, motor oil, brake fliud, different story. .

I have used the store brands. If you have your manual look in there it will tell you the type. Cant think of what the regular type is called off hand. Go to the store and get that you will be fine.

Do you have to worry about silicates in the coolant? I know that the Honda that I had could not have silicates, or it would cause water pump failure w/in a few hundred miles. Regular antifreeze has silicates in it.

Although that was true years ago (due to cast iron blocks/ heads and steel radiators) in autos. The coolants have changed over the years to acommodate Alum. blocks /heads and radiators that are now common in todays auto's and bikes. If you look at most coolants today they all say "safe" for alum. radiators and engines. Times change and so do the materials used in both motors and coolants. Oh and if you look at the manual that came with the bike ,it should say something like changing the coolant every 2 years or so.

Unfortunately, most 'house brand' lubricants (i.e. Motorcraft, Honda, etc) will change due to bidding by the lubricant companies. For example, Motorcraft oil was Mobil brand oil for a few years until someone else underbid them. The house brands will list what specifications they meet. Know your needs and then fill them . . .

They claim it runs 50 degrees cooler. I do not see that necessarily, but hard to tell with the analog gauge. It works good. No silicates, and a little pricey, but my bike is worth it And it did not even use an entire bottle of the stuff. Run it straight, so no worries diluting it. It is highly recommended by many. I will continue to use it.

I did also at 20K. Honestly I don't notice a difference except in the cost.
