Default 2 Mod Questions

1) I've been considering taking a trailer-hitch cover (skull with lighted eyes) and mounting it behind my backrest for a bit of excitement plus the extra visibility with running/brake lights. Has anyone done this before, and are there any steps/tips ya might provide to a rookie with little mechanical experience? I'm pretty sure it can be done, but it never hurts to gather experienced info first. PICS would also be appreciated, if available.

2) Are there any other luggage racks that will fit a set of Cobra brackets, or do I need to specifically buy a Cobra luggage rack? I'm working on tracking down a used rack, and if other options will work, it will broaden my search and shorten my search time.

Wow... harsh, and you haven't even seen it yet. Guess that means you think it's going to look like a "duct-taped $5.00 worth of glittery plastic to my fender and called it a mod" project.

Rest assured, if I do it, I'm going to do it right.

Don't put words in my mouth, I did not say anything about "duct tape".

Thanks, FL Vulcan Rider! I'm starting to think about how to run the wires down inside the sissy bar and keep it all tidy and clean! I found pics of someone who did this long past, and despite our sister Mary Carol's sarcastic opinion, I think it looks quite nice!

I'm gonna take my time and make sure it's all done properly, and completely, and I'll *FOR SURE* throw some pics up when it's complete!

I'd still love tips/pics/hints about the process if anyone has done something similar, though!

If I remember correctly, the poster who originally did this used double sided tape on the inside of the sissy bar to hold the wiring.

I ride with quite a large group of bikers, thanks, and I fit in just fine. Thanks for your opinion, now kindly take it elsewhere.

I have a few extra lights on my bike as well and anytime anyone feels the need to come down and call me a poser to my face is just fine with me. ( we'll have a real nice chat )
Real nice chat, yup, that sums it up just fine. I'm pretty sure of my communication skills... I usually don't have a problem, though, nor do I ever expect one.

If you are going to run wires through your sissy bar and have to drill holes, make sure you buy some rubber grommet plugs so as to stop any chance of cutting the wire through vibration later.
Thanks for the tips! I was already thinking about the rubber grommets, more along the lines of keeping moisture out than anything else, but the wire shorting out is a good thought too. First, I've got to find and modify a standard pad for my Cobra short backrest... the short round is a little shorter than needed.

Now c'mon guys. This is a forum where we all share our passion for the two-wheel rides with our fellow riders. Everyone has their opinions, but if they don't ask for it, then don't give it. Especially if it's not a 'good' opinion. Look at it this way, it's his bike and he wants to personalize it to represent him. So let him do it. Who cares how we personalize our bikes, we do it because we want to. But most of all, we share the passion to ride. So can't we all just get along.

I added a skull to the back of my bike and I plan on wiring lights thru the eyes this winter, hehe. My first skull was kicked off by the missus and it shattered on the ground, so I replaced it with a different skull that I painted chrome and have drilled the eyes for lights. Decided that I wanted them connected to the brakes, so the bulbs will have to be red or amber.

Let me see if I can find a pic of the first skull... yeah it's a cheap mod, but I enjoy it

If you don't have anything constructive to add to this thread, then just stay out of it. This forum was created to as a place to help bring riders together, not as a place to shoot their ideas down.

If this concept is too difficult to grasp, then I suggest you find another sandbox to play in.

thank you.
