Default my V2K plug overkill!!

ok, to begin with, you need to understand I'm a maintenance freak. I always change my oil, filters etc. too often because I like things like new......my cars' wheels get the brake dust cleaned off every few days. I drive my stuff hard, have NO garage queens, but I do like them maintained.
So, after my yearly sparkplug change (an hour of fighting them out and then in), I finally checked the shop manual to see the recommended interval. Kaw says they're due at 30K. I just put my 5th pair in at about 20k!!!! No wonder they always look so good when they come out. I guess I can stop doing them each year when I change oil and fog the cylinders for the winter......

I don't think you'd hurt anything. But if you change them so regularly, why would they be so difficult to get off? Have they seized or cross threaded? I would think they would be easy to get off, not like 100K change on a car.

I can do all 8 plugs on any of my cars in about 15 minutes, but the V2K plugs are hard to get to and require different combinations of extensions, etc. Probably not really an hour, but clearly a hassle.

I do my own oil changes but have not had the opportunity to even figure out how hard it is to get to the plugs. My last bike was a Suzuki VL1500 Intruder and I had to take the fake tanks off and the chrome pieces over the cylinders just to get at them. Hopefully the V2K will be alot easier. Every time I something there is always the risk of screwing something up, so therefore I will not be changing the plugs every year. I only have 11,000 miles on her at the moment.

Yea the V2K is a b to get the back plug out it's positioned way under the frame member with not much room to spare. Of course the tank must come off to get the plugs out.

You have to be kidding me. You actually have to take the tank off to get at the plugs. At least with my old bike the tank was fake and I did not have to worry about gas or connections. The gas tank was under the seat. How difficult is this, I am somewhat mechanical......but this sounds a bit of a pain in the @$$.

You're right CruisingEagle. I have to borrow my wifes behind because it can be the equivalent of two pains in the @ss to change the back plug on the v2k. LOL.

It may be worth having the dealer do it. Definitely will not do it every year.

The tank comes off real easy maybe about 15 minutes, just make sure that it's down to about a gallon, gas is heavy.

There is very little gas seepage when the fuel line is unhooked, maybe a half ounce just put a rag under it.

Just follow the directions in the service manual and you can't go wrong.

when i do a plug change in a difficult set up for the first time, i end up making my own special too for that application. so i will build, label and save my special tools for the particular application. i dont care if it cost 20-30 bucks in socket extensions, u-joints adapters etc....i wont even have the problem again

On my 1600, I change the plugs every 10 to 12K or about once a year. they are never in bad shape, but she always runs smoother and quiteter with the new plugs
