Default Problem with Ignition Blowing fuses

A few weeks ago I was riding my bike and it just died. I pulled into a parking lot and found that the ignition fuse had blown. I put in the spare and it blew. I took off the seat and traced wires from the power commander and looked for shorts-nothing looks wrong. Called a friend and he came with his trailer and we took the bike home. In the garage I tightened-up the battery cables(they really were not loose maybe 1/4 turn) changed the fuse again and she started right up. I rode maybe 75 miles with no problems then it started blowing fuses again , not with the bike running but when I would push the starter button bam! no power. I know it sounds like a short but the wiring all looks good. I still have not removed the gas tank to look under it and I guess that will be my next attempt at finding what is wrong. I wonder if it could be the fuel pump, it is also on this fuse but is in the tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated as this is extremley frustrating,
