Question noisy engine in 1500 classic

Just wondering if it's normal or something I should be concerned with.

I just picked up my 05 vulcan 1500 classic 2 days ago.
It's wonderful to ride but I've noticed that the engine is very noisy. I'd say it sounds like valves or piston slap. I'm mechanically challenged so my description may give a few of you a chuckle.

The dealer says this is normal and fired up another 1500 and it sounded the same.

Any comments are appreciated.

P.S
I absolutely love the bike but am just concerned.

Normal, most all the Vulcans are pretty noisy.

It's very normal Greg. Mine does it...and others here will tell you the same. If you have aftermarket pipes on it the noise levels will go down as the louder pipes will drown out some of the big V-twin's noisy heartbeat.

Mine drove me crazy! But after I put on the long shots it was a lot harder to hear, and now I don't even notice it.

I find that is worse when I don't run Premium fuel (BP) then when I don't.
A lot folks say that there isn't a difference but experiance tells otherwise...
try that

They say i have to run the high test 90 or better anyway. Guess because it's fuel injected.

Hi Guys
Noise.......ah ... I got an 03 1500 Classic, bought it new and the noise still drives me nuts after 23000km. twice I had dealer make chief mechanic take it out for rides....normal. Jeez. My wife has a Shadow 750 Aero and hardly any engine noise.
I say she got the sports car and I dont know if I got the farm tractor or a locomotive!!! I guess the only remedy is to make the pipes louder then the engine.
Otherwise I love the styling, power and comfort of the machine. Rode 3000km 2 up on a trip this summer with all kinds of gear. No problems, she just kept humming along.
........summer goes by too fast up here. Waiting for the remnants of katrina to go by on the weekend. They usually screw up our weather for the rest of the fall!
Cheers
