    Default Kawasaki 800 Vulcan Problems

I have a 99 800cc Vulcan, it has given me no problems for 2 years. Yesterday I want to start it and A weird clicking noise started coming from behind the battery. took it off, Cleaned all the contacts put it back in and hit the starter button and it clicked some more. I tried to jump it off and it would click once or twice and then start up fine, I took the jumper cables and it ran fine for about 5 mins and then it died. took the battery up too auto zone they said it was putting out 10.7 volts, So I get them to charge it up to full. Took it home put it in, and I was still getting the clicky noises, It would click once then the lights would go off and very slowly come back on. These is my only way to get around, So I really need to get it working. Got anything
    ?

I'd agree , I've come to the conclusion that once a battery is 2-3 years old and needs to be jumped it's done ( for my car ) even if it runs and starts the car again it won't be long and I need a jump again, bike batteries aren't really any different.

+1000 Get a new battery. That clicking sound is a sign your battery is dying. Mine did that earlier this summer, it would click before starting. Did that for a day and then it died completely. Got a new battery and she starts up right quick again.

You were right. I went to autozone, they wanted 89 bucks for it(Plus core charge). Later that night me and my girlfriend went to walmart, and I was walking by the car aisle and found a few batterys that looked very close to my battery. I picked one up that was about 1/2 inch less wide, for 30 bucks. Went home set it up, charged it, but it in the next day and it started right up.

Hey Hilts, I still have my OEM battery, one more year and I got you beat.

I have a spare on the shelf in my shop. The kind you mix the acid up when you finally need it. No worries about having an old battery on hand. IIRC, I got it at AutoZone for less than $60 bucks.

I like the old-fashioned batteries, but will admit the OEM Yuasa has been darn good, 7 years old still works. The first owner (got my 800 used, low mileage) kept it garaged and didn't ride much. Garaged is good, but low miles not so good. It's a wonder the battery kept its charge. Still, 7 years out of a battery is the best I ever got, even if three of them were original owner.

[EDIT] To the OP: I guess you'll be okay, but you really should have a battery better matched to your bike for size and capacity. You probably got a cheap ATV battery.

Good luck with that fritzi! My battery was the OEM Yuasa as well. It lasted 7 1/2 years before biting the dust.

Just replaced my origanal battery in my 05 800b 6 months ago. $90 at O'Rieley's. 95,000 miles on that battery. Bike almost never sits, and never indoors.
