Default Garage door remote ?????

I finally got tired of carrying my Garage door opener with me...seeing how my garage is on a slight hill and a hassle to stop and pull garage remote out of front pouch...I was reading and saw that someone on these forums has taken their board out and made a button out of it. I was wondering if you guys could get a pic, draw a diagram...I was thinking of doing that to make it look nice and not stick out so hard. I bought a new keychain remote, but as for our MS's, I always put keys in my pocket after starting. So my plan is to pull the board out of the remote and run a little button to the handlebar somewhere so I can push it while rolling up my driveway without having to stop.

All this is to make it easier and show my kids that Dad has still got some coolness points left in him

Won't even have to slow down much rolling up the driveway...clicking my button with ease and rolling in. +6 coolness pts for me...that'd make it.....
-19 shew only 20 more and i'll be back to +1 ...

Thanks in adavance for your input..i'm sure i'll see some good ones...and possibly some silly ones...but they are all good.

Thanks for quick reply guys. Dang...I think i'll use my original remote too..just like there...it'd be dumb to waste my cool key clicker...I was thinking more of a button on the handlebars. I guess i'll see how easy it is to get to the side panel. I was wanting it for an easy access button. I'll see if that feels comfortable when I get home. I drove my truck to work today.. it's cloudy and I figured I better take my truck..and waste a lot of gas... Thanks guys..that at least gets me on the right path. I'll gladly take more ideas. I am still thinking of mounting a button on the handlebars somehow with some kind of chrome bracket or something.

DEI makes a remote interface.

I've been using it, and am very happy with it.
It is on my bike's keychain, which is in my pocket while riding.

Easy hookup; cheap (I got mine for $20 w/remote on eBay); and as small as a car alarm remote (because it is..).

I used my remote and mounted it the side panel of the bike. I soldered to the points in parrell with the button and put a momentary button through the side panel so I can reach it while getting close to the garage. I'm thinking about redoing it with a micro switch somewhere by the left grip so it will be even easier to get to.

Yeah Cabo..thats what I was talking about...easier access...I have a ditch at the front yard and at the end of the driveway 2 brick walls..hate to hit either...But...what pitchinguy showed from ebay looks really cool...I may have to try that one. Flip of your bright lights...to open the door...that'd be a +2 more cool pts...Everyone will be like..hmm he just flashes brights and the door opens?? lol

You could even wire a circuit to your horn if you dont want to add any additional switches. It would work just like gadget's walkthrough wtih the only downside is you need to sound your horn everytime you want to open or close your garage door.

You could trick your friends into thinking your garage door opens and closes by the sound of the horn!

Out of curiousity, where would you mount the opener on our bikes? As mentioned in other threads, garage door openers are very poorly protected from water, so youd want it to be in a spot that is protected from water if youre going to leave it permanently attached to your bike.

How about inside a zip loc sandwich bag behind the side cover or sandwich bag duct taped inside big ol headlight, depending on where you put your switch. Lots of room in & behind that headlight. Regular remotes are not water resistant at all. Baggie will save mucho headaches if ya are in the rain!

My driveway is pretty steep. I usually just stop in the street in front of the driveway, pull the remote out of the tank panel pocket, open the door, put the remote back in the pocket, and *then* roll up the driveway into the garage. It only takes a second, and I don't have to stop on the driveway. Likewise, when I'm leaving, I roll my bike down to the gutter, get the remote out of the tank panel pocket to close the door, then start up my bike and take off.

I switch the remote between my bike and car, depending on what I'm driving, because I don't have an extra remote (my hubby has the other one in his car). My husband doesn't even use the remote when he rides his bike. He stops his bike *on* the driveway, gets off, goes over to the keypad on the side of the garage to punch in the number and open the door, then gets back on his bike and rides into the garage from the steep driveway. I think my method is much better.

Thats a good idea, behind the headlight. I never considered that. Hmmmm..... Now all I need is a spare garage door opener to hack apart!

I just keep it in my sling bag and use it on the street in front of the house. What bothers me alot more then the remote thing is having to back out my bike in between our two cars in the driveway. Almost makes going for a ride a mission........Almost.

Last year our garage was MUCH more cluttered. We finally got things straightened out to where we can park the two cars a little further apart so that there is enough room to slide the bike all the way to the back of the garage in between the cars.

Before I could do that, the only place I could park the bike was sideways behind my Trans Am and let me tell you, it was a pain in the arse everytime having to go back and forth, back and forth, to align the bike correctly so it would fit. Not only was it a pain to get the bike out and back in, having to do it everytime I wanted to drive the T/A made me almost insane.

Thankfully I took the time to clean out the garage to make more room. Its amazing how much clutter garages can have!

Thats the truth. Right now my garage is full of patio furniture, potted plants, my wifes huge dangly wind chimes cause of the recent storms. Leaving a little space for my bike on one side. Normaly without all that stuff in there I have the entire garage to myself, nicely organized and plenty of space for my bike and a future project cafe racer that I've yet to find <~~~this part about having another bike makes me all happy inside .

Right now our cars on parked on the driveway and our three bikes (mine, my husband's and my son's) are taking up the entire double-car garage. There's enough room in there that I can turn my bike around in the garage and go nose first down the driveway instead of having to back it down between the cars. When winter comes, though, we'll move all three bikes over to one side and I'll park my car on the other side. It's tighter, but then we aren't riding as much or working on the bikes all the time, either.

Unfortunately this wont work. The horn has a continious 12 volts running into one side and out the other and the switch mommentarily opens the circuit sounding the horn. I Tried it and found out the hard way that it doesnt work. I used one of my visor mount opener and soldered wires on the back of the circuit board. You can use the directions from gadget they work really well. Make sure you take note the type of button you buy. Normaly open is what you want. If you buy a normally closed switch your battery in the opener will die fast. (learned it the hard way too). My button is on the fork sheild in the back, Very easy to reach.

Yeah...i WAS like you guys...had 1 remote in my truck...other in my wifes van...I'd have to pull it out of my truck...put in my fork pouch...stop at end of driveway...open pouch...push button..just a hassle... but I rode down to my local "LOWES" and bought a $20 receiver kit...put it on my garage door opener and now I have a keychain remote to open...easier...but since I got that....I was thinking of an even easier way...So It still would be nice to have a button..or even the headlight switch...the previous post about ebay...and the High beam to open..sounds best so far....even better than my clamping of a button on handlebars.

I bought one of those tiny keyfob remotes, took it apart and soldered a momentary push button switch to it that I installed inbetween the gas cap & the ignition switch. It all fits under the chrome "dash". Snug... but it fits.

That's wild. On the 05 Nomad the the circuit goes fuse then horn then to the horn switch which is normally open, then when you press the switch the circuit then closes and allows the electrons to roll through Joint Connector 1 to ground.
