Default 750 Vulcan rear end tear down & Motorcycle Lift

Yesterday my wife and I drove to Harbor Freight in Spokane, WA and I bought a 1,000 lb motorcycle lift so I can work comfortably on our bikes. What a great piece of equipment to have to keep the work right in front of you. I got the office chair with wheels out of the den and was able to remain seated once I tore the rear end down on the 750. I can't say enough good about having a lift to help keep the ole back from screaming it's sore and tired and about to go out!

I've been reading about the 750 Vulcans and the Final Drive splines not having enough grease on them from the factory so I took mine apart today to see if it was dry. The rear splines had grease on them but the front spline was bone dry...BUT...upon inspection of the front splines I saw no wear or damage at all so felt better about that. Of course while I had the rear wheel off...shocks...mufflers...etc...I did a good cleaning of the grease on the rear splines and then added new grease to both front and rear splines upon putting the rear wheel back on. I now have 2 more bikes to do...my wifes 750 and my 1500 but am looking forward to doing the work being able to use the lift. Again...if you can swing the $299.00 for a 1,000 lb motorcycle lift...you might want to look at the one Harbor Freight has. With a few mods and tweaks it'll do just fine.

Here are two links. One for those who have a 750 Vulcan and want to do the final drive maintenance...and the other to the motorcycle lift.

I agree about the lift, definitely invaluable. If you're a Sam's Club member they have a great deal on a very nice lift, the Larin MAL 2. It's only available online, none of the stores stock it. Lots of great features and only $79.95.

I like the Larin one from Sam's. But, it's $56 shipping to me. Makes it a less than great value compared to the aluminum pro jack Sears is now selling. No room for the one Whistle got! It's a beauty though.
