Default custom seat or after market?

I am new to the big bike scene and am wondering if there is a significant improvement in comfort from the stock seat on my Vulcan Nomad FI as compared to a mustang or corbin. As this year went by my butt got more used to the ride and I found I could put on a few more miles than in the start but no way could I ride for more than an hour and a half or so before I needed a little off time. I have sat on a few bikes with after market seats and they feel so hard, like sitting on a park bench, what gives? Thanks for any input.

On my classic, I went from the stock to a Mustang and the difference was incredible. I know the nomad stock seat is better than the stock seat on the classic, but I could go for hours on my mustang (with the driver back rest) and not feel the numbness or the fatigue that I use to feel with the stock.

I couldn't stand more than 60 miles on the stock seat, Mustang seat makes all day rides possible. 2600 miles in 8 days last summer and the backside never complained

I also went with the Mustang seat on my 1500 classic. From northeast Georgia I made two trips to Daytona this year (about 1000 miles each round trip plus riding while there). Both trips were great due in part to the Mustang seat

My neighbor just replaced his Yamaha 1100 driver and passenger seats with the Mustang. This seat put him 2" forward from what the stock seat was. Might be something to consider if anyone is fairly tall, could put you in an uncomfortable position. I have a Utopia driver backrest coming today for my '05 Nomad. This will make most stock seats feel more comfortable. If I have any problem with comfort I will just have to replace the stocker with a Mustang. The Utopia is mounted on the front of the passenger seat thru a slip down slot to the bracket.

When I picked up my '03 1600 Classic in Aug. it already had the Mustang seat on it & I love it, but can't compare it to a stock one.

+1 more on the Mustang. I got one and it made a WORLD of difference. No hotspots, pressure points, or girlfriend complaining! It's expensive but worth EVERY penny!

Mounted my Utopia backrest tonight..... what a difference in comfort. Took about 20 minutes to remove the passenger set cover, install the metal bracket to the bottom of the seat bucket, re-staple the cover, cut the slit in the vinyl and install the backrest bracket to the seat bracket. $194 well spent for all that comfort. If you guys like the Mustang seat, you'll like this addition too.

I installed my new Mustang Touring seat yesterday. I won't be able to test her out until next spring but after putting it on I climbed aboard for a minute and have the following impressions: I seem to sit a couple of inches lower then with the stock and although it seems hard (not a cushiony experience by any means) the support points seem to line up pretty well on my bony behind. The passanger seat is much more substantial then the stock but it, on the other hand will cause the passenger to sit a couple of inches higher than the stock. So, I end up sitting lower, the passanger sits higher. Hmm, I wonder how that will work out or if the center of gravity is affected. At the very least I'll bet the passanger will feel more of the wind. Again, I'll have to wait until spring to give it a good test.

I made some mods to my stock seat and am extremely happy with it. I saved a lot of big bucks by doing so. I can ride all day and my rear end is perfectly happy.

convert her from girlfriend 7.0 to wife 1.0 and you will see complaining.

Yeah, but the bad part is, uninstalling Wife 1.0 requires a lot of system resources, and eventually a complete system format is required.

Very true. It's a very expensive operation.

Trust me on this one Wayne- don't try to make the Utopia backrest work with the mustang seat. It'll require cutting the seat pan on the passenger pillion. Utopia is an awesome backrest though

Thanks to everyone for the input, seems like it is pretty much unanimous that the mustang seat is the way to go. My wife just bought me a new fire and steel lightbar, bike cover and rear luggage rack and racks for my hard bags, all pretty much frill stuff so I think the next investment will be for comfort.
