Kinda'.

You are protected by Magnusson-Moss, meaning that any failure caused or contributed to by an aftermarket part or service is on you, however, the manufacturer must show that the damage WAS caused by the aftermarket part.

IOTW: If you do the Caddman and don't get the proper mixture and burn up the engine running lean, don't expect Kawi to pick up the repair.

The same law protects you doing your own service... if the manufacturer (or stealership) is going to require that they perform service using specific parts/materials, then that service must be performed for free....

With one important exception: Extended Warranty.

The extended warranty is not a true warranty, but rather a service contract. You are bound by whatever terms are outlined within the contract, which MAY require service at a specific facility (I was once sold an EW that required service at a little independent garage 50 miles from home... drove by the shop and I wouldn't trust them to change the wiper blades).

However.....

The Caddman mod is making a change to the emissions and noise control system, thus, is technically illegal. This is the reason that so many are talking about making it easily reversible. 2007 smog laws are going to be tight, and personally, I want to be prepared in case they do what they did in '74 and make smog checks retroactive.

Every part that comes off of my Classic is going into bubble wrap in a box... pipes, intake, ICS, etc... I ordered the Fi2000R since it is a plug and play... no splicing needed. It'll take me a half a day to restore the bike to factory conditions for smog testing or a trip to the dealer for repair.
