As said above...Gotta trick the engine into pumping more fuel. The Thunder kit just gives SOOO much more air I really think you'd do some damage, the engine would be so lean. I doubt it would even run well enough to ride.
Here are some maps I found for 02 Meanies with Thunder kits. All a little bit different. I'd try them before I dropped cash for a custom map. Some places do an excellent job, some "certified" places don't. They start with an online map and adjust your airflow for that bike/day/humidity/elevation. Personally the map I found online is MUCH better on my bike then the ones I paid for. It's kinda a cr_p shoot. Here's the maps.... they are converted to .djms.

Absolutely right...from 0-10% throttle they are all over the place. But after that (while the level is different) they all follow the same basic curves. Since none of these maps match the pipes Sleek has, I figure it's good to have options. I must have experimented with at least 30 maps before I found the one I wanted for my combination.

Remember that the 0% and 2% are decel settings to help eliminate any popping. If one map causes popping and another doesn't, you can steal those collumns and put them onto your prefered map, unless your going from a basic to advanced or visa versa. If you guys recall, my HK pipes cracked on me, and for a while the only thing I knew is that I was getting some popping, which is somewhat common for HK's,.....so I did a lot of tuning on my 0% and 2% collumns for a while until I discovered the source of the problem =/

BTW stock pipes sux My poor, poor HK's

I am about to be in the same boat. I currently have a tornado on my 1600 Meanie with the Power Commander, but stock pipes. I used the T205-007 map from the the PC web site and it works great. I just ordered HK 3" Big Straights and am searching for a map for that. PC does have a map available for HK Strippers and stock or aftermarket air kits but I don't know if that will work for either of us. It will likely be the first thing I try before getting a dyno, unless someone has a better idea.

I have a 05 1600 MS with Thunder Tornado and HK Sideburner. I've been trying various maps from the net without much success.

I've gotten mixed signals from various dyno guys about mapping.
One guy offered me two options, a laid back version with less hp and better gas mileage and a high HP version that sucks gas. He measures the emissions to get the proper settings. Does this make sense?

Another claims that they developed a program that can do a good map.

There is an authorized PCIII map guy but the guy deals mainly with HDs and not very good with Metrics.

I have a feeling I'm going to need a few custom maps before I find one I like.

I removed the PCIII from my Nomad 1500 and plugged the stock ecu back in. My plugs are a nice tan color so I'm assuming that it's not running lean. In fact my bike seems to be loading up when first started. It takes a few minutes of fast idle to smooth out. Sounds like it's running very rich at first startup. For the rest of the day it starts just fine. Even with the solenoids removed I never have to use the choke or enrichment knob or whatever it's called to start.

Flyingdgn, Yes it makes sense.. I think that by measureing the CO% comming out of the pipe they can tell how rich/lean the engine is running, therefore adjusting the program on the PCIII to add more or less fuel. (In theory) Like a lot of other things, this will depend a lot on the experience of the tech doing the mapping. I would try the maps posted here from King of Wings, they are pretty good, I also have a couple I can upload if needed. You may find one that you like. If you still want to get a custom map, at least look them up with the Better Bussiness Bureau and/or internet. If they have any open complaints, look elswere...

Sleek, I checked out your link and you look like a guy I met at the dealership before buying my meanie. Ever been to Mountain Adventures in Conyers?

Yep. I sure have. I went there with my two brothers back in October. Did we talk about the VTX?

I highly recommend getting a custom tuned map if you have the money. Had my bike custom tuned for $250. I had been using a downloaded map that worked just fine, but the difference when I got the custom map was amazing. I think even though you may have the same aftermarket parts, every bike is "different", with its own personality and results may vary with downloaded maps.

I installed my new 3" Big Straights over the weekend. They sound freak'n awesome!!! I tried them out before changing maps and everything is working beautifully. Still running the T205-007 map. I will likely get a dyno tune when I get the chance primarily out of curiosity but not necessity.

I am thinking of removing and blocking off the reed valves anyone have any insight on that notion. What exactly can I expect by doing that other than a bit cleaner look on the engine.

Marbling the reed valve won't have any affect on the look of the engine as they are behind the intake cover. If you're bike has popping on deceleration, marbling should help with that. So, it might sound better.
