Default Meanie PCIII and Tornado Air Kit Users stop here

Just got finished purchasing my PCIII online so I can put on my Tornado Air Kit that my wife gave me for Christmas. So, ladies and gentlemen of the Mean Streak community (or FI Vulcans in general) lend me your expertise.

Where'd you get your PCIII map? I've looked at all the maps available from PC's website, and there seems to be a really limited number of maps available for the Mean Streak, and not a very wide variety of aftermarket configurations at all. Almost everything is for V&H or Cobra pipes, and virtually nothing for big air kits at all. Only saw two for the Baron's big air.

I know there's a lot of Mean Streakers out there who have the Thunder Mfg. Tornado Air kit on the bikes with a Power Commander. So, give me some good tips on mapping, if you don't mind. I have DG Hard Krome Kickers (2.5") if that helps.

Congrats! I'm sure someone with the tornado will be along shortly to give you specifics. I just went through this for my PCIII install but I have caddmann mod with v&H pipes. As I understand it most any of the maps that have utilized a free air kit and pipes of a similar sort to yours will get you within 20% of ideal F/A ratio. The rest is best done at a dyno center. The user submitted map for the 02 meanie with the Thunder kit and baggers is the one I used and it works great. I set the accellerator pump at 88 sensitivity, 15% and 20. Don't know if this helps but there it is.

Calling King oF Wings. Use his map and it'll be close to what you want. The ones an the PCIII page are pretty rich. I've got a couple meanie maps on my hard drive somewhere if KOW doesn't come through.

Wait a minute, I thought you were running the resistor mod. Did my nay-saying scure ya into buying the PCIII? As far as the accellorator pump goes- Johnny Cheese told me not to bother with it on a Vulcan- it'll just hurt the mileage

I hate to have my hand held here, but where'd you find that map? I didn't see any maps specific to the Tornado Air Kit, looking now and still can't see any. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot.

Edit: Found one at Thundermfg.com for Thunder Air and V&H straight shots. That might work to get started... then tweak a little.

Interesting about the Accel pump. I'll turn it off and see what happens.

Phatboy is right, I think KOW has experience with alot of maps and the one he is using now is very similar to the one I spoke of. That's why I went with it. He is using one on the PC site for a 1600 Marauder which is a bit richer than the 1500 map (at least in the normal driving ranges).

I have Cobra speedster shorts, and the Tornado air kit. I run a map from Frank (kingofwings). I have no dyno facility even close to me, so I couldn't get a custom map even if i wanted. The map from Frank worked really well last year, provided good results. I have since obtained another from him ,which I am going to load in the spring.
I would reckon tha thought the pipes are different one of the maps from Frank (I can send you a copy if you want, pm me) would be better than nothing.

edit: I just noticed you have a 1500. That could make a noticeable difference. Sorry if i led you on a wild goosechase.

There's a ton of places in Atlanta that dyno tune. With either of the two closest to me I'm looking at $80 - $150 for a custom PCIII tuning. They claimed on the phone that you typically get about 4 or 5hp more out of a custom tune over just reuising a map. I'm not sure 4-5hp is worth the money... but... dunno... I'm debating it.

Check the disk that came with the PCIII, it has a few maps for your bike. Also check the maps for the Suzuki M95/vz1600, they are the same bike and there are a few more choices for the M.

You know... I mean yet ask one of you guys via PM to email me one of these maps when my PCIII comes in.... but... sitting here having a rather lucid moment I realized something.

Considering the expense that goes into pipes, big air, and PCIII, $80 for a custom tune seems a paltry amount to get the best performance you can get out of the $grand you put into your bike. Hah!~

I have another question to muse: Tornado recommends a PCIII when you get it, but it doesn't say you have to have one. I'm going to probably have the time to put on the air kit this weekend, but the PCIII will probably be another week in coming. You think it'll hurt my bike to ride it with the Tornado w/out a PCIII in the meantime? Should I just hold off?

SleekStreak DO NOT run your bike with a Tornado and no PC, you will lean it out. Well, don't do it unless you want that nice yellow/green/blue tint to your pipes. LOL

I have a custom map for an 04 MS with HK Kickers and a pro series hypercharger. Let me know if you are interested in it.

not to mention the give or take 10 grand you paid for your bike
everyone has their own opinions, so i am going to give mine. 80 bucks for a custom tune is cheap! go for it
i paid 300 for a custom tune. the bike runs excellent after i did the custom tune
i, for one, highly recommend a custom tune

Too bad Frank hasn't chimed in yet as (to my understanding) he had several custom tunes done and the way I understood him, he wasn't that thrilled with them. He wound up going with a user submitted map that I spoke of earlier. I imagine the results may vary depending on the shop and their knowledge and expertise. Just my 2 cents. I'm no expert.
    Frank, where are you??
