Default Ride Report - Caddman mod on 1500 classic Carb'd

as many of you know, I just recently put the caddman mod on my bike.

http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...ad.php?t=17535

I got an opportunity to take it out for a serious run today to note the change, here are my findings.

HOLY CRAP! she's strong now, it feels like the gain in perfomance equals the gain when I rejetted. most notible gain is in the upper rpms, its there all over the powerband but i've more topend now.

I took it up to the rev limiter in first, second and third, it gets there quicker for sure. getting to the limiter in third was not easy to do on wet and slippery roads with terrible crosswinds but I manged. it did pop and sputter way up there in that higher RPM range.

I think i need to increase the fuel mixture, there seems to be a slight hesitation in mid gear cycles and it gets a bit whiffy at the top, this is to be expected.

roll on in 4th gear at 60 mph is wonderful, never really needed to downshift for passing but for that extra umph it was done. Not any longer, seems to have plenty of passing power, can't imagine the rocket launch if I did downshift.

pipes really have a lower and more powerful tone now, I can't hear the carb sucking up all that air as my pipes are so loud, and well, it was windy too. I can tell you that the noisy ticking of the motor topend isn't as noticable with my new exhause note.

overall, its a hoot and I do notice an increase in power, can't wait to see what I get when I get more fuel into the mixture. It certainly has increased my smile factor and its also great to know that my baby is finally getting the air she was designed to accommodate.

I know after riding mine yesterday, with the fuel adjusted properly, that when I downshifted from 5 to 4 and opened the throttle wide open, I could feel the weight come up off of the front tire and felt the acceleration push me back further in the seat..............man it's sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta get more fuel for sure, no doubt about that. you can feel it dry out in upper rpm's. I can't wait to get that adjusted and ride again. there is joy in mudville tonight.

Sounds like what I'm looking for also. I'll need to empty out the garage some day so I can work on my bike. David...just richen it up and try again. No need to burn the valves running too lean.

Allright! Glad to hear it! I picked up in some of your earlier posts that although you were doing the mod you might not be completely sold on it Spok. Sounds like you are a believer now. Good for you and Robin!

it wasn't so much that I wasn't sold on it, just the overall look is such a change from what i've been used to looking at. the available power is there now and that makes it more beautiful and something I can't go back from.

I think they look real good. I'm really considering the mod for mine. Reports like yours make it all the more "necessary". My only concern is an exposed paper filter. I guess a pair of K&N or similar filters would ease that concern. Do you know if the K&N type filters are waterproof?

they gotta be rinsed out with water when you clean them, i'm sure they'll survive the water. its how much water in rain or wet conditions will get thru and into the carbs or throttle bodies is what really concerns me. i was talking with 1600pilot on the phone and thought about maybe bringing along a pair of showercaps to cover them in case of rain.

I really doubt we would have much to worry about moisture wise with K&N filters as thay have oil on the them anyway.

to limit the cost of two K&N's I wonder if the color of the specre is the same as the K&N? if so, I could run the K&N on the right and the cheaper spectre on the left.
