1999 kz1000p

So I have a '99 KZ1000P former police bike that I'm fixing up. I haven't done a lot of work on bikes, just cars. I have a new replacement switch assembly (start, siren, headlight etc). In order to replace this switch assembly I clearly have to disconnect the throttle cable brackets that screw in to the bottom of the assembly. What is the proper way to go about this?? Am I supposed to completely disconnect the cables at the carbs in order to do this? Thanks for any help.

Anyone? Here's a pic of the throttle cable brackets I'm referring to.

Howdy. The barrel adjusters are already turned in all the way, so there may not be any available slack at the throttle. So you're probably going to have to disconnect the cables at the carburetors. You could try removing the handlebar control screws, then try to separate the 2 halves to see if it will come apart. More than likely, though, you'll probably have to disconnect the cables at the other end. On my KZ650 I can turn in the adjusters at the carbs & at the throttle to get some slack. from the diagrams at Partzilla for the 1000P, there doesn't appear to be much adjustment available at the carb ends.
