Its official. http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/ totally sucks. I have waited 3 weeks for an 18 tooth front sprocket for my 800 Drifter. The entire time they said the parts were on back order for blueing reasons. I got a reply from someone else that he had waited 5 weeks for the same order before me. He wrote that he finally went with scootworks and was happy. I finally went with the sprocket set that www.scootworks.com has IN STOCK. Today I ordered the part and guess what I already have a tracking email from the shipping company. As of this time scootworks has my vote.
Hope this was helpful. |

Hi gang... today i got into a discussion with my father and my uncle about the top end of our bikes
I was wondering what other 800 drifter riders notice as for top end and such My drifter has trouble doing over 110 - I can only get it to do 110 in 4th, as soon as I go to 5th im out of the power band and all bets are off Cruising in 5th at 80 is perfect but 5th wont get me much past 90 Questions: 1. What front and rear sproket do you have? 2. Does the windshield make a difference? 3. I notice my fathers 800 classic (his 2005 vs my 2000) has better top end then mine - but he has no windshield any advice is appreciated! KEnny

2. Can't say for sure on the windshield.....I have a very tall shield (22") on mine. I know it definately creates some drag, but, it DOES keep the wind off of me, which is what I wanted. 3. Does the classic and Drifter share the same sprockets? Felt damn good to be out yesterday. Had it to 95 for a short stint in 5th...bike could have given me more, if I had asked it to. |

I have a question. Do all the 800 V twins have more viberation then other 4 stroke bikes or is this only for Drifters? I rode a 700 Honda Shadow for 500 miles and it didnt seem to viberate as much as the Drifter. It almost feel like the tires need balancing. I feel it in the handle bars and on the floor boards. |

By changing the front sprocket it loweres the rpm greatly between 70 and 80 mph. Much less viberation. It also seems to pull harder at top end. I dont know if I have any higher top end due to still breaking in the motor (400 miles). It seems to have good bottom end still. As far as the seat foam I know you can by the closed sell foam but if you dont have the tools, time and knowhow it might be a disaster.

Yes that is the sprocket set I ordered.
The only way that I found to order the front sprocket only was to get it from www.sprocketspecialist.com. I would strongly suggest dont use them. There is something very wrong with that company. I know for a fact that between me and one other Drifter owner we waited for 5 weeks to get the part and they just kept jerking us around. |

This link shows my new 2006 800 Drifter and how it looked new and what I have done so fare. It really focuses on the new sound system. I got the housing off of Ebay for $60.00 it is a Vetter radio housing. It use to be used on the old Vetter fairing to add a radio. It also has a rain cover for the radio. I got the radio from a flee market new for $100.00 (it has an MP3 jack on the front. The speakers are flee market new Blaupunk $45.00 (I first bought cheap $25.00 no name speakers and they blew in ten minutes). The antenna came from Pep Boys for $12.00. To mount it I used 2 stainless Ubolts with plastic tubing over them. On the front side, I put a ½ in. longer bolts through the windshield which holds a L shaped bracket that bolts to the bottom of the housing. I ran the power from the headlight housing (there was an extra set of power and ground wires in there). For just over $200.00 I have a great sound system. I went on a 250 mile ride yesterday and at 70mph it sounded great. The guys with there Harley $500.00 systems said mind sounded better and they wish they knew about my setup before dropping all the cash they did on there version. Hope you enjoy the link.

so i messed up my rear fender yesterday. bad enough it needs to be professionally fixed. i took my saddle bags back off, but put the bolts back in the frame so i wouldn't loose them. threaded them all the way in. was cleaning up for my big ride yesterday and clicked the shocks down a notch for a smoother ride and to see the difference. bolts still threaded in the whole way. went about 120 miles, all bumpy interstate and stopped at a rest stop for a break. was looking at my bike and noticed a scrape on my rear fender. the paint was off and there was a nice groove about a half inch long. looked on the other side, same thing, except deeper and about an inch long. i was ****ed. i took the bolts out and clicked it back up to 4 on the shocks. so now i have a place on each side where they almost wore through the plastic and i have no clue if they can be fixed or not w/o getting a new fender. ive been thinking about getting the whole bike repainted, but i just dont thave the $$ right now. this sucks.

That does suck dave - sorry to hear
I did my own body work using fusor body epoxy, and paint from one of the paint suppliers - it matched pretty well, but if you are going to paint a fender - do the whole thing - it was hard for me to fade it in... ALSO wvdrifter02 - i am interested in the seat - merc45@gmail.com is my email address please mail me. Would it work on a 2000 drifter 800? Another thing: My front fender on my drifter makes noise when on bumpy roads and i can move the whole thing around up there, its like it aint tight or something but i know its torqued down right- advice? thanks, Kenny

Well, I finally found a solo seat for my 1999 Drifter 1500. I wanted to get that 2-up seat off and replace it with a solo seat since I got the bike. Today, I found a seat at the dealership, and ******ed it up; got home; took the old one off; one bolt on the grab bar was frozen solid so I had to cut it off (see pic). Got the new seat on and it looks and feels great. Lovin' my Drifter for sure now. The pics show before and after.
