Sorry I can't help with the windsheild because it was already on the bike when I bought it. I do have to find out soon because I want to replace the windsheild due to scratches. I think it may be OEM but not sure. It imounts using 2 allen bolts per side and takes just a few minutes to take off,but it isnt one with the clamps for really quick release. I havent figured out exactly which pipes are on it either,I think they are Sampson Slashers tho. I still have lots of snoopin to do...=) Also if you havent yet,be sure to check out vulcandrifterriders ...there is alot of good info there also. Good Luck

yes, they are the sampson slashers and i see im not the only one with the chrome problem on the pipes. i have them too and mine have turned almost completely gold at the seam there and they look like ****. im gona send them off and have the ceramic coated black to match the bike. i already had the air cleaner covers powder coated in black so the pipes are next.

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me what the compression should be for a '99 1500 Drifter? I'd like to do a compression check tomorrow but want to confirm the values I was given. Front Cylinder: 85 PSI Rear Cylinder: 110-156 PSI Are these correct?

You should look on ebay, search Drifter engine guard you'll find several. They are chrome, all you got to do is fine sand the chrome and paint them black. It will work.

The saddle bag mounts are located under the seat and exit throught the back about 4-6 inches. The bags then clips to the bracket mounts so there is no need to makes holes in the fender. at no point the rear fender ever touches the bags or bracket. As the fender pivots up/down the bags are always stationary with the seat mounts.

New Project! I'm tired of the black/silver combo on my '04 1500. today I ordered my Candyapple red urethane (single stage paint not real candy apple) and as soon as weather allows and the paint gets here I'm gonna have a black over red Drifter. I'm looking forward to it, That black silver has really been bugging me man! Over on the other Drifter forum someone had a picture of a die cast toy Indian Chief with this color combo and that did it. Didn't the '03 Drifter have a oxblood over black combo? I'll post pics if it comes out good, if you don't here from me concerning the paint job....well.....
Iron Indian John BTW I used to have a 2000 Chief I bought new back then. It was nice but...You just can't beat a Fuel injected, Drive Shaft 1500 cc Drifter! Use to be one of the first members of the Iron Indians Riders Forum. (before it was the Iron Indians forum.) I'll never sell my Drifter. Last edited by Iron Indian : 02-22-2009 at 11:15 PM. |

The windshield looks like what my husband has on his Sabre ... Memphis Shades makes it and it is relatively quick release. He put it on and off by himself in 10 or 15 minutes.
I have the Custom World Windshield on my drifter and it requires 3 hands to put it on and off. It has 4 bolts on the mounts that have washers that are nearly impossible to keep in place with only 2 hands.

A couple of weeks ago we saw some engine guards that had bed liner sprayed on them to turn them black. It was an inexpensive replica of one of the trends we are seeing from the manufacturers. They also did the chrome housing around the speedometer.

You know what? Windshields are great things. Maybe if you just dink around town you don't need one. but cruising around the countryside it just adds to the enjoyment. I believe I have the SS32 Slipstreamer windsheild on my '04 Drifter 1500 It has the little wings out the side to protect the hand area somewhat, its all clear and very non intrusive...I love it. I recently bought a Mean Streak 1600 Special Edition '07 and put on a National cycles Street Shield. It is 100% better than no sheild but compared to the Slipstreamer is just is no comparison. Point being, I would never take off the Slipstreamer even if I could. It is non intrusive and just makes riding a pleasure...I can hear my engine and I can hear traffic and the wind does not beat me to death. It is a fine reasonably priced windshield and I would not ride without it. Not to mention the bugs that have met their demise before they slammed into my face. But...each to their own. But even getting off the Mean Streak with its windsheild and hopping the Drifter with the Slipstreamer, It is just so much more pleasurable.
