DrifterGuy,
So the National Cycle shield N2220 fits with the Kawi Fire and Steel lightbar? I called up NC asking about this issue because I too think they have some nice shields to offer. The rep on the phone told me their shield would not fit my 2005 Drifter with the F&S lightbar installed. Did you have to do any mods to make the shield fit? Curious here. well i havent been on in a while, so here i am. ive had my bike since oct. and ive already put almost 2500 miles on it now. i still havent gotten around to fixing the battery problem b/c i havent had any more trouble with it. the gas mpg still sucks. i rode about 300 miles this weekend; mostly insterstate. going up i got 100 miles outa a little more then a half a tank. then once i got off and onto secondary roads, it dropped pretty quick. on the way home, i was holding steady at around 80-85 and was at 75 miles at a half tank. i switched to 93 oct. fuel. im not sure why im still getting bad mpg. maybe i need a intake upgrade and a power commander. i was thinking about pulling the baffles out to let it exhale a little better, but ive been told its to loud already, so i cant. any ideas?
oh, and i ordered some highway pegs last week. i got the kuryakyn(sp?) pilot pegs for my highway bar.

PainlessWolf,
The N2220 will fit with the Kawi Fire & Steel light bar for sure with no modifications needed at all. You'll end up with about 1/2 to 3/4 inch clearance between the spotlights and the shield. Too bad NC has not quick release shield. |

Humm... thanks for the website I assume I can use the same concept for the light bar lights?
Ill have to mask off the head light with some tin foil or something... then aim the light bar lights... Kenny

I tested this... and i beleive its do to the windshield... also on the highway im doing a constant 80, basically full throttle the whole time cause the windshield keeps me at 80 in 5th if i drop to 4th i can get up over 100... but i keep it pinned or close to pinned in 5th and its perfect KEnny

I just went on my first long trip with my very loud HK pipes. I think I'm ready for that "6th gear" everyone talks about and also lower the rpm levels. Most sugestions mention changing the sprokets to 18/40 but I can't seem to find the 18 teeth front sprocket, does anyone know where to get a good brand 18t sprocket from? Also, If I can't find an 18, does the 17/38 sprocket combination achieve the same goal as 18/40? I've seen results for the 18/40 sprockets from Woody but not 17/38. Open to any suggestions with proven results.
Thanks, Eli Last edited by drifterguy2004 : 06-05-2006 at 01:29 PM. |

6th gear? I havent heard of this... but on my 800 6th gear would be doggy... 5th is doggy now. because of the wind I have to use 4th to get up to 80 / 90 the only time the bike sees 5th is if im doing like 70 - 80 @ lower rpms. The 800 definitly is not a rocket Kenny ![]()

Kenny, this so called 6th gear is what others have called it when you have an 18/40 teeth sprockets on 800 motors. I was looking to have the motor rev a little lower at higher speeds by having the 18/40 combination. I discovered that the 04 Drifter has 17teeth front and 40teeth rear sprockets standard. Going to 18teeth in the front won't do much for my situation I think. I'm better off spending my $$$ on something else for now. You are correct in that unless you're going 80+ mph, passing at 60mph with the 18/40 or 6th gear will be tough on a drifter. I've had to down shift to pass and my drifter has been jetted, piped and has 1000 miles on it.
Here are the ratios that Woodchucks came up with for 800 motors 16/46 = 2.875 (95 & 96 800A) 17/46 = 2.706 18/46 = 2.555 17/42 = 2.470 (97 and newer 800) 18/42 = 2.333 16/39 = 2.437 17/38 = 2.235 17/39 = 2.294 18/39 = 2.167 18/40 = 2.222 (same as belt drive) RPM Levels: 17/42 - STOCK 55 mph - 3250 rpm 65 mph - 3750 rpm 75 mph - 4250 rpm 85 mph - 4750 rpm 18/42 (changing front sprocket) 55 mph - 3000 rpm 65 mph - 3500 rpm 75 mph - 4000 rpm 85 mph - 4500 rpm 18/40 (changing front and rear sprocket) 55 mph - 2800 rpm 65 mph - 3300 rpm 75 mph - 3800 rpm 85 mph - 4300rpm Last edited by drifterguy2004 : 06-06-2006 at 01:19 PM. |
