I would like a beach bar mount. 100 cm.
One issue to keep the old look
Has anyone done this already?
I'm afraid that some cables will not be long enough.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages?

Off topic.. theres a couple of nice drifters for sale on ebay right now. A custom 800 military indian look alike. The guy did a great job with it. Great paint job, love the flat or satin look.

Arrow Yellowstone 2009 Drifter Roadtrip

As Promised, a few (44 out of over a 1000) Pics from my recent trip to Yellowstone on board the Drifter.
My riding partner was Sara Fox on her 96' Concours. The Mate and our roomie followed in the car which made for great pics and also restricted my need for 'luggage' to a cheap as dirt Bike Bouy Cupholder We got some riding and some living done this Summer.

On a stock two up seat [2000 drifter 800], the distance from the lowest point (seat subframe) straight down to the fender is 5 1/2" - unloaded.

Default Windshield suggestion

I bought the Rifle brand Classic windshield with the black brackets 5 years ago for my '99. I bought the tinted(bronze) and am very happy with it...I eventually bought the matching lowers....man, do they make a big difference in reducing air turbulance! They were the best ad on I ever bought.
Only complaint, the black paint is starting to chip/flake around some of the bolts. You can see it at Rifle windshields, fairings, accessories and parts for 1999 Kawasaki VN1500-J1 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter))
Hope this Helps.

No Pics (I work for IBM, you'd at least think I would have a Cell Phone with a camera by now) but I did have an sweet lil' October Country ride today. Ran by the Library, the Kawasaki Shop in Longmont to see if anything new and wonderful was in (a pair of Sweet Old Gals were droolin' over the Drifter when I came out and I swapped Pipes talk with em' a bit) on into Boulder to see a Bro' at his work, then Blockbuster and Time Warp Comics. Everywhere I went, the winds were blowing leaves scurrying across the road and the trees were moanin' in that bare branch Autumn way they do. I finally headed home as the day was darkening and temps dropping in the face of a big Cold Front coming across the Front Range. I was comfy in my leather and denim and did the 'Rider on the Storm' gig all the way back to my house in Firestone. There's just something very cool about riding in Autumn and it's not just the cooler temps. Sweet Pics, Pcarrell, your Drifter looks at home in that Autumnal Splendour, even in front of the ol' Graveyard.
Ride On!

Default Gotta Shake

1999 Drifter 1500

Ok ill start from the beginning... when i first got the bike it had the Vance and Hines long shots but when the previous owner put them on they broke loose the "doughnuts" on the headers so i got them welded back on. Then the bike started to pop BAD every time I let off the throttle it would pop 5, 6 times no matter how the rpm's. Ran seafoam through it and did the marble trick........didn't help at all. Then I cleaned the throttle body's and like magic the pop was gone. So thats taken care of finally. But now its gotta shake about it at mid range rpm i guess (no gauge), at idle no shake, high rpm no shake, doesn't matter what gear and I can pull in the clutch and the shake stops. Any suggestions??

Another forum helped me with this...it turns out that the exhaust is hard mounted in the rear and the motor was trying to move and couldn't. So what you do is buy the mount for a vulcan classic which will open you up to more possibilities as far as pipes go or you can do what I did and drill out the bolt holes and put in rubber bushings if you already bought the exhaust for the drifter.

gut the goat belly first Goat Belly Gutting

for the pipes...
Take the fishtail tip off, then started to cut the plate spot welded inside with a cutoff wheel. Then slowly and gently using pliers pulled off what was left at the welds (wrapping the tip in towels and placing it in a vice helps). Next, I used a sharpened phillips screwdriver and a hammer and punched holes in the rear baffle plate (it is sloped so drilling is almost impossible). Once I poked plenty-o-holes in that, I took a piece of 1/4" rebar and bent a 90 degree angle near one end then sharpened the other. Then placed the sharpened end into the center of the pipe as far as I could get it then hammered it in, piercing the baffle. To get the rebar back out tap on the opposite side of the 90 degree bend (be sure when sharpening the end of the rebar that you also grind down the ridges so you will not get the bar completely stuck in there). Start up the bike and see if you like the sound, if you want louder.. you can do what I did and use a thicker piece of rebar. I finally ended up using 3/4" thick rebar! Pipe sounded great!

I forgot to mention, when you pull off the fishtail tip, be sure to use a sawz-all and cut off the small pipe sticking out. This way after you do that and remove the plate welded in the fish-tip, you will have the hollowed-out look. Hope it helped
