I tested mine a little today, got it up to 105 mph and the engine was pretty high in RPM

id like to put a custom intake on mine, and some pipes... maybe that will help a little

Good point, but Having power in reserve and using it constantly are two totally different things.

I understand your point though

Default Help with 99 Drifter 1500

I purchased a 99 Drifter a few months ago. Everything was going great until last week. The bike started an intermitent back fire, random power loss and bucking. It will ride fine for a mile or two then lose power, it will then correct itself or stall out the engine. It will always start back up. I run 93 Octain and after the problem started a put some injector cleaner in the tank and new plugs, no change! Anyone experience this problem or have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

too much injector cleaner will make things worse...

get rid of the tank of gas you have i bet water got in it...

check the plugs, check that the choke is not sticking on either...

I noticed mine getting choppy, i put a tank of 91 octane in there and took the air filter off and sprayed some gum out in there...

been runnin like a champ now

well on my bike, i have the support brackets and 2 bolts on each side. the brackets tie into the frame under the seat.

well, i fianally got a solo seat and highway pegs for my bike. i also replaced the battery. ive had the bike since oct, and i now have put over 3,000 miles on it. i love this bike. no problems except the battery and an exhaust leak. i noticed it when the bike was back firing and losing power. i found one of my header bolt nuts had vibrated off and the bracket was loose so i got a new acorn nut and it fixed that. i'll take some new pictures when i get my seat put on.

Coodeville, I have an 800 Drifter with OEM solo seat. Picked up a KAWA rack and the mounting bars that supposedly attach somehow to the seat. The rack does attach properly to the bars but durned if I can figure how to attach the mounting bars to the seat or underneath. Just ain't no holes anywhere that align up.
Am going back to dealer...50 miles away...tomorrow to have him show me how, or take them back. Will let you know what I find out.

The 800 and 1500 use the same rig, according to the KAWA catalog. The mounting bars are made to fit either or both the rack and bag guards (not sure what they are called but they are simply a rectangular bar to prevent the bags from rubbing the fender.)

i have determind that my saddle bags will work with my newly aquired solo seat(as of today). on my bike, there are 2 holes on both sides for the bag supports. you have the 2 screw holes that hold the seat on, and just above and back a little are the mounting holes for the supports. they are threaded and have bolts with 17mm heads on them atleast thats how it is on my drifter. i had the 1 up stock seat, but i took all that stuff off and put a solo seat on it. it looks sweet now. i even got a few comments tonight on it. i'll take pictures tomorrow.

Dave, trying to figure out the mounting of the brackets; did you have to remove the seat first?

Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Thanks,

Ted (spent 34 years in Md in Anne Arundel Co.)

yea i had to take the seat off. its part of the frame so its hidden by the 1 up seat and the fringe on the back of the solo covers it. did you see the holes im talking about? if you look at this picture, right to the left of the helmet lock, there is a bolt head. thats one of them. the other is tucked up underneith. if you have the double seat, its the mounting location for the rear seat rail(shown) this is also an outdated picture, i'll take some more when i get home.

Dave, just got back from the Dealer; the mounting bars they ordered for me were for the 1500 only. The only mounting bars they had in the catalog for an 800 said it was for saddlebags, and the pic showed it with the saddlebag bars attached. And it was in black only. They are gonna call Kawa, California and see if they can get clarification. I think that mount will work for a rack; can't imagine them having the 800 Drifter on the market as long as they have and not have a rack for it. I left the whole rig, rack and all, with them just in case they don't have a mount it can be credited back to my account.

well, by rack, do you mean the small chrome luggage rack thing thats fits over the rear fender and ties into the frame? thats what the bags mount to. just get the saddle bag supprts and longer bolts and lock nuts. im pretty sure thats how it all works. i havent seen that rack in person, but i just saw a picture.....here...check this out.

does yours look like that with that rack? those are the bag supports and the bolts attatch through the inside of the bags. atleast thats how it is on the 1500.

Zuzu ; the pic above is what I have, rack (top piece) and two horizontal bars that attache to the seat/frame. I didn't buy the bag support bars as I only wanted the small rack to bungee jackets and such on. The horizontal bars shown fit only the 1500. Am hoping the dealer comes up with a proper mounting bar for the 800. Thanks for the pic.

If they are like the ones shown above, and if you have the stock seat, I'm afraid they will not fit. But surely someone with a 1500 Drifter w/solo seat will be interested.
