Default Spark Plug removal

I had noticed a thread where some one pulled the plugs to see how they looked so I figured why not... The front plug was easy but the rear must have a trick. It has some sort of cover that a socket will not fit down.. 05 nomad is the bike. The plug I did get out was not too black nor too brown, actually didn't have much discoloration at all other than from the heat of normal operation I guess. So what about the rear plug?

Cabo, you need a thin walled plug socket. Or else use the plug puller that came in the tool bag.

You can go to Home Depot and the get the "Kobalt" 18mm deep socket and it works like a champ. I just got one last week and changed my plugs.

I'm told the proper color should be tan. If its white rather than tan I think it is a sign that its running on the lean side.

As for pulling the plugs -I just used the socket that came in the bike's tool pouch. Take that side cover off and dig through your tool pouch and see if you got one (geeez that sentence sounds a bit odd )...

I have wanted to pull my plugs and check them since I get some popping upon deceleration and was told that's a sign of running lean with the V&H pipes. They were grey with some carbon deposits, so I'm definitely not running too lean. I have 4800 miles on the bike. I cleaned the plugs and checked the gap and now the popping has practically gone away?

My local Home Depot didn't have the Kobalt socket but Advance Auto had a nice substitute for $ 3.96! Thanks for the 18mm info.....

As for the popping.........did you marbelize your bike when you changed the exhaust? You can check out the process over on Gadget's website. Once you have the marble....it only take about 10 minutes to install it and almost completely stops the decel pops and crackles.

If you have a grinder at home any 18MM will do, just needs a little "adjusting". Did that over the winter, no real prblems with a slight reduction.
