Default Tire pressure on meanie question!

Help the needy please.... I have a general tire pressure question.
My stock tires on the meanstreak say 36psi cold for max payload. The manual also mentions 36psi cold for a 405lb load. My question is can you run a lower pressure if you are not carrying any load(passenger,accessories,etc.).
Might sound like a ignorant question but I do not know the answer since my truck tires are rated at 50 psi for max load but I never run them that high due to the pain it would cause Also the tires on my bike were only about 26 from the dealer when I first got it.

run it at what the owners manual says. remember, the 405 pounds is including you AND the bike weight. i keep mine at about 1-2 psi under max. keeps the tires from wearing quick from underinflation

Most people run it around 40 psi. If I happened to check my tire in the morning, I set it at around 37 psi. However, when I check it in the afternoon, I set it at 40 psi.

Tire pressure on a motorcycle is more criticla than on cars so it is very important not to go below the manuf. recommended setting. It's alow improtnat not to exceed the tire max presure setting also.

Thanks for the reply Frankt07, I feel like an Idoit for asking the question but being a dirt biker we fluctuate the preesure for the riding conditions. I am new to the cruiser world and trying to play it safe! Thanks

After replacing both tires on my M/S at just a few thousand miles, I finally decided that the manual was totally wrong re PSI of 36 #. I bumped both new tires up to 40 PSI and now have 20K on them with no sign of cupping and tons of tread left.

The OEM Dunlop D220F rear and the same in front except I run a 120 instead of the 130 for better turning.

Running lower air pressure in your tires will cause them to run hot. They won’t handle as well and won’t last as long. The national average for actually air pressure in car tiers is 26 psi.
