Default How long is your average ride?

I can't seem to ever get away for much more than an hour or two. Always other things that need to be done. Mow the lawn, clean the car and truck, go to work. You know what I mean? How do you ever get in a long ride?

Try to take a morning or afternoon every weekend for a 100 to 150 jaunt. Usually capped off with a few golden beverages and a doezen raw oysters! You can do that when your kids are grown, would have been hard to do with kids at home waiting for Daddy. That's just the seasons of life passing!

My kids are all grown and gone so for me it's not as difficult to go for hours on end if I want to. When my kids were still at home and I wanted to enjoy any hobby I got up early at the crack of dawn and took a few hours to enjoy some quiet time and the hobby.

Short rides for me are an hour or two, usually a 50 mile jaunt. Longer saturday or sunday afternoon trips are half a day or more. Usually log 100-200 miles on those runs. I just make the time. Wash the car/truck 5 dollar car wash done. I know it's tough somedays to make the time to do it, but the days I can, I do.

The rides we like to take on weekends generally take 3-6 hours and longer. We like to leave in the morning, stop for lunch, and then take our time coming home. This summer we'll take quite a few overnight trips. Our kids are all grown, so there's no reason to worry about getting home.

I've got kids from 6 yrs old to 20 yrs old(5 of them).

Here's what i did this weekend:
Kids (3 of the boys this week, normally 4 but one with broken ribs)are to race motocross this week about 3 hr drive from here.
Put 20 yr old son with broken ribs in drivers seat of truck that is hooked to trailer. ...pile rest of kids in truck. ...tell him"don't let the noise get to you" and we'll see you when we get there!.

...Little Dove and me take off leading the way on our bikes.
I just got home.Kids all survived the day ,..no broken bones,no ambulance rides,..never so much as even fouled a plug on the mx bikes(rare to not break something on these bikes)and wife and I even had a great ride to boot.

First "trip" today, with wife on back. 170 miles roundtrip, about 20 on the interstate, with a stopover at Outback Steakhouse thrown in, so it took some 5+ hours altogether. She seemed to really enjoy herself, so I can see more and longer and some overnight trips ahead.

My average ride is about 30 miles a day, depending on weather. But I try to get 150 to 200 miles in a solid ride during my day off. Sometimes I can't get that, but I do use my bike as a primary vehical durring this time of year.

Just be kind to your feet, for I think given your situation this will likely happen again, and again, and again...

And, oh yeah, the question....Daily, maybe 10-15 miles, sometimes 25. Weekends? I'm still trying to discover the area. Rides between 250 and 400 have been the usual.

Not trying to steal the thread, but I'm the guy whose wife was AGAINST getting a bike, and now that I have one and she has been on the back four or five times, her opinion is changing!

I would have to say our average ride is around 100 miles. But I prefer longer day trips. I cant stand doing the into town and back home crap. Its way to boring for me.

I have to say, as sad as it is, that my average ride is 1/2 hour. To work. Now, when I take off, just to go for a ride, about 120 to 150 miles. But that only happens every couple of weeks.

If you ride the bike to work, then you can always turn the ride home into a pleasure cruise. Sometimes that ride can act as a nice buffer time between work and family -you know so you don't bring all the work stress into the home

You are right Anamosity. Riding in circles close home is boring. I prefer a destination 70-80 miles away and then back. That's usually some bike dealer for me. I do take an 45 minute to an hour ride every other day after work and that feels good even if just wandering. If you ride too much it tends not to be a special thing. On the weekends, one of the days I will get away for 3-4 hours. But easy for me. Kids are grown. Except for work my time is my own.

I pretty much use my bike as a daily rider 25 to 30 miles. On any given Sunday I can put on 200.

I can only get away for about an hour or 2 also. My kids are still at home so I have to get back to them occasionally!!
