For those of you who have been following my thread, I had Hard Krome 3 inch Equalizer Straights on my 2005 Mean Streak. Short story, they cracked and DG replaced them with my choice of DG Exhaust. The Equalizer Straights were discontinued so I chose the Sideburner exhaust. Here are my opinions: INSTALLATION: Referencing my previous post, the Sideburners were more difficult to install than the Straights. After two sets of exhaust gaskets and some twisting, pulling and pushing, I finally got them installed as best as I could. Emailing DG some pictures of the installation, they agreed to just tighten everything down. Also, DG has a great customer service team. After an hour of riding, I must say I’m happy with the SideBurners. SOUND: At idle the exhaust notes are about equal with the typical DG lope. Anything above idle the SideBurners have a louder and deeper exhaust note. When I got on it, the SideBurners have a much louder and deeper exhaust note. At cruising speeds, 3000 rmp, the SideBurners are louder. I wear a full face helmet. I can tell you that I can see the SideBurners wearing me out on long trips. QUALITY & BUILD & APPEARANCE: Aside from the obvious, two-to-one vs. twins, the SideBurners have a welded baffle and the Straights have removable baffles. Quality and build were equally good and typical for DG exhausts. PERFORMANCE: The SideBurners may have a little more top end than the Straights. By a little, it was very hard to tell the difference. Low end, again it was very hard for me to tell a difference between the two SUMMARY: I’m happy with my decision. Are the SideBurners worth the $600 or so bucks venders are charging? I had never heard a SideBurner exhaust other than the posted internet clip which doesn’t do it justice. I must say that the internet clip was better than hearing nothing. After having them and experiencing the deep rumble, yes I would purchase them again. UF, great lookin' bike! The pipes really look good. How do you like the Tornado cover? Other than the obvious bling. Did you put the Tornado on yourself and if so, I hope you didn't have as hard a time as I had getting that damned air tube out (assuming that the Meanies have it). That stupid thing drove me crazy and I'm still finding little bits of black plastic in my garage a year and a half later.
BH Edit: Do you work for UF? A good friend is a pilot for the UF Athletic Dept.

Great looking pipe. The more I see of the two into ones, the more I like them. I think that is the way I'll go in the future for an exhaust upgrade.

I’m a UF Grad in Civil Engineering. The main reason I got the cover was to keep the rain out. I like the look. I don’t really like the way it mounts to the tornado. I had mine fall off once. Once you get the cover the steal “pipe clam” which holds the filter on is removed and replaced with four screws which hold the cover and filter on via friction. I installed a heavy duty zip tie for a little extra support. Yes, the air tunnel was a pain in the a$$. I got so frustrated I ended up cutting mine up into 2” squares. I just kept cutting. Cleaning up the plastic saw dust was a complete task in itself.
Thanks for the comments. |
