I want mine Diesel!

Well when I got my bike in sept of '05 the salesman told be there was two types of bike riders, those that dropped their bikes and those that have yet to drop their bikes. I have read it in this forum as well and I stated many times I will never be a member of the dropped your bike club. Well I was wrong. Up until 7:30 pm EST I was a very happy member of the yet to drop your bike club! now I am a very embarrassed member of the Dropped your bike club. and here is what happened... I pulled into the gas station and stood the bike up to level it out reached down and took the key out of the ignition to unlock the gas cap. filled the tank and closed the cap, then I sat back down on the bike and remembered my wife wanted something in the store... and thats when it happened stood up got off the bike guess where the kickstand was? Good thing I am a big guy and pretty strong cause I picked that thing up like it was a toy and popped the stand down and looked around to see if anyone saw. well I had an audience that would make most entertainers proud, and just embarrassed the heck out of me. looked the bike over real good and only got a little scuff at the end of the clutch lever.
So now I am a dropped the bike club member! Dukey Out!

Sucks!! I've owned 4 bikes, and dropped (or worse) three. It's a terrible feeling. I'm super-paranoid now about dropping my Mean Streak (again). Just got some highway bars today.
But, dude, I'm betting it was more than strength that let you pick up a 1500cc bike like it was a toy. It's amazing what a little dose of embarrassment and anger will do for you. Worked for me. It's only a couple of days later that your muscles start talking to you, asking, "Did you have to pick up that motorcycle so quickly? Alone?" |

I think it is better to drop it the way you did instead of the way my wife dropped a bike when she was first learning to ride. She forgot to put her foot down when she stopped. It was only once but the crash bars came next.

DOH!!!
I dropped my first bike back in 85, was getting off of it in a parking lot and my foot slipped in a oil spot. Lost my ballance and I ended up gingerly laying the bike down and myself falling over top of it. So far, the 1600 has been shiney side up.
