Default MS Engine sputters after new tank of gas

2005 MS sputters when I give it roll on the throttle. It doesn’t die at idle but when I try to give her gas she sputters. Could I have possible put to much gas in the tank or did I get some bad gas. It the gas is bad, should I siphon it out or just add something to remove water and such. I noticed that the more I rode it the smother it got. By the time I got back home the engine was running smooth again.

Could I have overfilled the tank?? What should I do?

It was Cheveron gas 93% Octane

Maybe overfilled it? It's probably ok. Pick up some SeaFoam gas treatment at Napa Auto Parts. Good stuff!!!

I haven't had a problem with overfilling, but it sounds like you got some bad gas. Try the gas treatment, and hit the road and run that gas out. Fill it back up after 60 miles or so, to thin out the bad stuff. Don't go back to that station.

If its running smooth again then your fine. If that happens again just drain whats left and feed it to the lawn mower. Fill up at another station. Take it from there.

Over filling doesn't sound like a culprit and more likely bad gas. Wonder if the 93 oct has been sitting in the ground awhile due to low sales ? If it has a 10%ethanol mix, it could collect moisture at a faster rate. Strange thing is I have never gotten bad gas, um, uh, in my bike . But I always go to the busy stations where turn over of gas isn't an issue... Troop

Very strange but the same thing happened to me last week. My new MS (1500 mi) normally runs smoothly, even when cold but after a fill, and when I was leaving the library (no I didn’t get the gas at the library, it was sputtering or more precisely acting with a surging/nearly cutting out swing. I’m talking about the engine and not drive train lash. It sort of smoothed out in the large parking lot but at the road edge I had a very tight right hand turn, a large lip and very slow speed and of course in the middle of the turn as I was going over the lip, the engine sputters big time. All a prescription for disaster and embarrassment. The bike went down so slowly it rested on the foot peg. No harm except to my ego. The long and short of this is that it quickly smoothed out and no problems since and I’ve had a couple tanks of new gas. I only use high volume gas stations and in this case Mobil gas. I’m wondering if a full tank and sitting out in the sun for a few hours had anything to do with it. There should be vents for vapor and liquid but…??? Bruce
