800a replacement rear shock

The rear shock on my 800a is hidden and very hard to adjust. The only method I know of to adjust the preload on the shock (short of taking the rear end of the bike apart) is to use a steel rod and sledge hammer to knock the adjusting collar around to the desired setting. I was considering installing an air shock so I could adjust it externally. Has anyone done this on an 800a? Where did you get the shock? Are air shocks really any good? Is there another solution?

I have the 800B and I bought a progressive 1" shorter shock for it from cruisercustomizing.com It was $377 altogether, and it has 5 settings that are (very easily) externally adjustable using an allen wrench. It is awesome. If you want to adjust your stock shock, you almost have to lift the bike's rear-end off the ground and then you still have to REALLY knock it (with the sledge hammer and maybe a crow bar) to adjust it. Before doing that, you have to remove the side cover and compartment to even get to it. The progessive is a better suspension, and WAY easier to adjust.
