Default Another 1500 Classic question

I don't know much about the 1500 or fuel injected bikes since I ride the 800 carbed, so I'm going to throw out another question or two.

Lets say someone is going to install V&H Longshots on the 1500 FI. I'm assuming if there is no air mod done, then there is no need to do anything to the fuel management system, is that correct?

While we're talking about pipes, has anyone installed the Longshots on a 1500, if so is it an easy install?

I have Straight shots but a buddy from work has the long shots on his 1600 classic. No FMS such as PCIII or TFI. His plugs are good in color his bikes runs great and in the last 1 1/2 has put quite a few miles on it. I have also disconnect my PCIII and everything is fine. In my opinion I would install the pipes and drive it easy for a week or two and if you have no back firring then check the plugs every 2 or 3 days. If they are not running hot then I would say save the money for another mod or beer for the summer.

are these what you want to install?

the only place they don't match the 1500 is in the rear footpeg mount. you can modify the bracket (i did) or buy a 1600 footpeg mount.

I have long shots on my 1500. I installed a TFI when I put the pipes on. I was able to fine tune the pots on the TFI and get better performance. The pipes were pretty easy to put on. I ran it for a few months and then added a Thunder air intake, that's when the bike turned into a beast, really brought it to life.

Yes. You may want to check into marbleing the reed valves. Check here, it's a great resource:
http://www.gadgetjq.com/gadgetsfixitpage.htm

In the "Bolt On Harder" section you'll find the instructions for disabling the reed valves though there is absolutely nothing "hard" about it.

you dont have to install a FMU if you are only doing pipes.
i added a PCIII to mine for peace of mind that i wasnt running lean. the bonus was a couple extra ponies

I put aftermarket pipes on my 1500 FI last summer, and I didn't do any other mods until this summer, when I did the Caddman mod and added the PC. The bike ran fine with just the pipes.

No, those are not the V&H Longshots.
