Default 7500 mile oil change ?????

I looked in the MOM and it says first oil change 600 miles (done) and the next oil change 7500. That seems high to me. When do you change your oil? I want to change to synthetic, any suggestions on kind and weight?

Usually we would think that Kawasaki has LOTS more money for engineering and lab testing than we do as single persons. So I would probeably say if you have mostly long haul driving it is good to go that far per MOM recommendations.............I would think Kawasaki KNOW what they are doing. If you have mixed driving or more stop and go, change it every 3k if you use Dino oil, and you should safely stretch it to 5k with fully synthetic oil.

I am going to try for 5k miles on this oil change since I put in Mobil-1 10w50 Goldcap, it is just a fact that we as motorcycle owners tend to be more anal with our hard earned dollars, and like to be rather safe than sorry

i used castrol full synthetic and change it every 2000 to 2500 miles...but mines also a sport and gets beat on more so its probably a lot different

You can do a search and find a ton of material here related to this subject with quite a few different views on oil change intervals, but I tend to follow the 3k mile interval with either dino or synthetic. My logic is that you'll get the same amount of dirt/contaminants in the oil regardless of oil type, so why let the dirt/particles in there for another 2 or 3 thousand miles? In the big picture, oil is relatively cheap in relation to the overall investment that I have in my bike. Just one view, I'm sure you'll get plenty more.

do you let a car go 7500 miles? i don't. i don't care what the MOM says, i change my oil at 2000 to 2500 mile intervals. Oil is cheap.

Full synthetic since 9000 miles

its your bike, do as you like.....some here only change once a year but use highest quality oil and filter, they do good too.

I've always changed motorcycle oil/filter every 3-4K miles or 3-4 months, whichever came first. Last year, when the crankcase of my 2000 Nad had to be split to replace a water pump bearing at 29,000 miles, the mechanic reported no measurable wear to internal moving parts. Up until last night, I've used KawaChem 20-50, but just changed to Amsoil synthetic 20-50. Do not forget the Alamo or tiny HLA screens!

I normally change mine out every 3k miles(with full synthetic). However, I changed my oil/filter just before Sturgis (M1 15w-50) and will probably ride this oil out to the end of my riding season, or approx. 4500 miles. Can't see changing it out in Sept at 3k miles and then again in November at 1500 miles for winter storage. I have faith in the oil .. Troop

Running 2k intervals now until I finish doing some UOAs for comparison purposes.
After I'm done, I will likely go to M1 15w50 and go with 3k intervals.

If you notice the intervals in the MOM, you will see that they are not all the same interval... they end up being somewhere between 4000 and 7000 miles.
The problem is, the engineers used metrics, and recommended maintenance is given in km. Due to rounding errors, it puts our scheduled maintenance at something like 7.5k, 12k, 15k, 20, 24k, 32k, etc....

My dirtbike is recommended for 1000km/600 miles. It gets serviced every 10 hours or 200 trail miles.

Change mine at 3000 mile intervals using Delo 400 dino. Also change the filter at every oil change. Now this gear case thing is new to me, what intervals are you 1500 riders using? I'm thinking every other engine oil change should be good.

Yep. Just don't overfill it. I recommend filling it on the sidestand rather than level as the manual says. You still get plenty in and don't have a chance of shooting it out the weephole.

I was told it is really up to the riding you do. I high rev and ride alot of twisties which can get hard on the engine...Safe I was told is 2000-3000 miles. I just put Repsol Synthetic and so far so good.

I just did the 600 mile service and changed it. I set the sidestand on a block of 2x4, it's not quite level that way, but close enough. It sure doesn't hold much, just a couple squirts from the bottle and it was running out.

Thanks everyone, I have 2000 miles on it so I think I will wait till I put it away for the winter and change it over to M1 15-50. I think that is the idea that everyone has come up with. I know oil choice is different with everyone but I do want to go synthetic.

What is this "putting away for the winter" thing you speak of?

Down here in FLA we "put it away for summer".
It was DAMN HOT this summer.
Finally the temps are getting slightly lower; we can start riding again

I change every 2500-3000 miles. If you plan to change at the 7500 mile point I would recommend having some analysis done on used oil first. You'll find that 7500 miles is a long ways between oil changes I think.

Oil is cheap, motors are expensive...

Very funny California boy . That'd be when snow is on the roads and temps are below 30 deg.
Also, I use 75-140 syn gear lube and change it out when the bike gets put away for hibernation..
