Default Are you happy with the Mods you've done??

I done quite a few for a new bike.
Some I like and some I dont.
I like the Caddman thing. Did a fish tail outta a corner yesterday(by mistake) scared me but was fun still
I really like the ISO grips. Thats one worthwhile mod.
The pipes(cobra slashdowns) are nice to look at and I like the sound but I certainly question the quality!
The Mustang seat is not bad but I am really looking forward to something with a backrest for the driver and I may go Corbin on that!
The windshield I hate more and more everytime I ride. The Buffeting is horrible and I do have lowers. I need a more bigger unit with more coverage all way round.
I installed risers soon after buying the bike and while the drag bars look so awesome they dont function well for me on hours of ride time. I need a whole new set of bars! Some on order...we'll see how they work out.
Forward controls are alomost neccessary if you are tall on a Meanie/Marauder...but I think adding the backrest completes that setup and allows you to relax as you stretch out.

Of course these are all my opinions. Was thinking about them as I was riding yesterday in what can only be described as the most awesome ride to date for me.
As I racked up to the 9000 km mark on my new bike riding the Alberta country side in Mid August with the ripened grain and the wonderful smells of Foothills life it made me not wanna stop. The sun was getting low in the sky and even tho the wind was buffeting me hard and my back had an ache I would not have missed it at all. It was glorious. I look forward to next season when I can have a little more comfort and put on lots more miles. I can't afford to spend a pile of money this year to do what I want to do to the bike..

As a side note I came across a kid ring an 06 Fatboy. I gotta say. That is one beautiful bike. I don't care who you are. That is one nice looking ride. I envied him. He just glowed when he talked about it! We rode together for a couple miles and I was glad to have met him!!

I have done several things to mine also although they do not include a seat, risers or windshield. I can't afford now to do most of the "comfort" mods, but I do look forward to a Mustang seat someday. I am 6'1" and I put the frame mount highway pegs on with the 2 1/2" extensions and I am very happy with them so I have no plans for forward controls. I have 0 complaints about my V & H pipes, they are awesome. Not too sure if I will put risers on...I will wait to see what the Mustang has to say about that. I would like to have SS brake and clutch lines as well if I go with risers. I plan on adding a few chrome parts over winter. The bike runs great, very happy here.

Fairly happy with the mods. The Cobra exhaust makes decent enough power, even if it looks okay and sounds terrible. Jetted and polished carb is getting 54 mpg right now. Windshield delete was a big improvement to looks, handling, ride quality. Aluminum HD handlebar, real rubber grips, and KZ900-Z1 mirrors are a drastic improvement over stock.

Hmmm...
1.) Thunder intake = great mod
2.) Cobra FI2000 = much better after dyno'd for a/f ratio. $75 for dyno and $140. for FI unit. PCIII tuner said it wouldn't be worth it to switch to PCIII now.
3.) Corbin dual tour seat is great comfort but Kawasaki solo seat much better for looks. At $210. it was a good price and a $40 gel pad over winter will improve it.
4.) Memphis Shades shield/lowers greatly appreciated on long rides like to Sturgis. Good to have even if off 90% of time.
5.) Leatherlyke bags similar to shield.
6.) Kuryakyn iso grips/throttle boss(es) = great comfort
7.) Flip-A-Lever throttle lock well worth the $50.
8.) Cobra Speedster shorts exhaust look good, sound good and have good quality. I'd recommend them based on my ownership. Then why am I getting a Muzzy meg and selling these to my buddy for unknown gains ? I dunno, just for a different look ? That's what my wife thinks !
I have other mods but the above are the major things that affect performance/comfort... Troop

Ok, edit:
2.) Local PCIII tuner was wrong ! Addition of PCIII provided 2.5hp, 3ft/lb torque and 5mpg increase in addition to crisper response. $$$ well spent.
8.) Muzzy 2-1 meg pipe provided 10# less weight than Speedsters, increased low/mid range oomph and to me, much more unique sound. Quieter at idle with a decent roar. I love this pipe !
9.) Mustang solo seat w/backrest: not quite as comfy as the Corbin but still a very nice seat and adds a whole new look to the bike with a fender bib.
10.) Stainless braided brake/clutch lines: Dramatic improvement in brake feel but makes clutch pull a tad stiffer( I can handle it ) Adds nicely to appearance too.
11.) GenMar risers make my riding position more comfy
12.) Sigma Sport Micro W/R bicycle lights that come with easy off/on velcro straps. These little lites(about the size of a quarter) are $10/each, battery operated and attach super easy to handlebar/rear directional. 30 seconds of attachment provides a LOTTA LIGHT for nite time rides. I set them to strobe..Sigma Sport Micro W/R

Thumbs up

Current:

V2K - About the best mod I've ever made.
Cobra Fatty Freeway Bar/Engine Guard - Cost me $250, saved me a thousand already. Two thumbs up.
Windshield - I wouldn't hit the highway without it. Though I do remove it around town sometimes. The bike looks so much better without it.
Kuryakyn Highway Pegs - Way more options for comfortable positions on the highway. Another must-have for me.
ISO Grips - I installed these before I ever rode the bike. A must have.
Roadhouse Slip-Ons - Prett decent sound but expensive for just slip-On's. They are neighbour freindly though. If I did it over again (and I may) I would probably get the V&H PowerShots instead.
Willie&Max Sadldebags - They suck. Period. I swapped with Tracy when we both got new bikes. She got the better end of the deal with my old Saddleman bags. I'd never buy a Willie&Max product again. The Saddleman bags are awesome!
Kuryakyn Chrome flooroboard covers - A little bling, these things look awesome.
Kuryakyn Deep Dish Signal Bezels - Installed today, Seen them on a few other rides, and they look awesome.

Future Mods:

Mustang Seat - 'Cause the stock one plain sucks
Air Intake & PCIII - Probably next year some time

Default Mod fever

No mods yet for my 900 LT. Just bought the bike. But those ISO grips are the first on my list. Aslo saving for the crash bars....I'm tempted to use my Visa and just go balistic. But the wife would just nag me to death...so I have to do it the old fashion way...save.

Let’s see;
*HK Stripper Straights w/slash cut tips - I like them. They look good and sound good.
*Hypercharger – Looks good and works good but it sticks out way to far. I wouldn’t buy this again.
*Kuryakyn Duel ISO pegs w/extensions – They were necessary because of how far the Hypercharger sticks out. Cool though.
*Mustang Seat – Much better than the factory seat. Especially for the wife. (By the way, Mustang makes a seat with a driver’s backrest).
*18L Ledrie saddlebags – They are good, Hold lots of stuff.
*Easy Brackets – Love these.
*Jardine backrest and luggage rack – Over priced but they are great.
*ISO Grips – not installed yet.
*Kuryakyn Passenger floorboards – Wife loves them.
*Alley cat Windshield – I like it ok. I like the looks of the bike without it but it serves it purpose.

All I all I like most of the mods I’ve done.

Mods;

1 Corbin Dual touring w/1 backrest for when the wife rides with me.

2 Danny Grey seat for just me.

3 Kaw light bar

4 Rear Fire and steel Floorboars-gone now have Kuyrakyn Iso pegs front and
rear

5 SS cables and hoses

6 Kewl metal risers

7 Kuryakyn Iso grips

8 Thunder Custom teardrop Intake (for sale) replacing with Thunder Tornado w/flame accent

9 PCIII

10 Thunder 2-1 exhaust

11 Modified rear fender

12 Relocated tag and brakelight

13 Custom Paint

14 Thunder 95" kit

15 Crome front resivoirs

in process of buying

led rear signal strips
badlands illuminator
mirrors
Highway bars

As some of you know a lot of this is in the process of being done. My scoot is torn into many different pieces and some of these mods are sitting in my garage with nothing to put them on. Oh yeah and whoever was questioning Cobra slashcuts quality....don't they plain suck. I had a set and both pipes ripped clean off at the rear mount!

Engine Guard -- Must Have-- Motorcycle Accessories
F & S Lightbar-- really helps light up the front
Heated Grips -- Show Chrome---help with altititude, elevation and temp changes
Risers--Genmar
ISO Foot Boards--Kuraykyn--more comfortable than pegs.. floorboards maybe?
Windshield -- Clearview(they don't sell mounting Hdw)-- better than F & S
Lowers--Baker Built Airwings... Uninversal....Adjustable top and bottom
Seat -- Mustang Sutdded Dual Tour with removeable driver backrest...much better than stock.
Backrest and Luggage Rack--- Custom World International (bike specific mounting kit necessary)... Nice Chrome.
SaddleBags--LeatherLyke traditional (with helmet clips)... lockable, hold a bunch and pretty much waterproof.
Fuse with relay and Grounding Block--Electrical Connection.. GPS and Heated grips inline fuse wired to fused block. Plenty of room for more electrical.
Brake- Back off module....Pulses brake light ...continuous pattern. Wiring in with
Electrical connection turn/brake and run conversion kit with
4 LED( 2 red, 2 yellow) Signal Dynamics License plate frame. This setup really lights up the back and works great...especially at night...and/or cars, etc. behind you.
GPS-- Quest 2--- works great.

Only mods on my so far are a set of strut bags and V&H Cruzers. On my wish list are sissybar/luggage rack, iso grips/pegs, and Okie Air System. I could use more room than the little bags give but I like the look and the price I got them for. The Cruzers are the best improvement I could have done. I love the sound. I have had so many people come up and ask questions about my bike since I put them on. They all say it sounds bigger.

ISO Grips, always a must.
Stiletto end caps, look sweet.
GenMar Risers, made the reach easier.
Mustang Solo with Backrest, VERY comfy, but moved the damn bars forward again...
F&S Windshield, sucks, but does the job around town and it's rarely on.
Memphis Shades, lowers, look like crap, but are functional with the shield.
Led Tail/Turn signal, looks great
Sidemount Plate, looks way better than stock.

I also have River Road Saddle bags, and Cobro Bag Supports, but they are for trips, not local, and a Teknic tank bag for back and forth from work.
As many here know, it's hard to do functional mods on a Mean Streak that don't kill the lines of the bike...

Iso grips - same as above, would not have a road bike without them.

Throttle Boss for Iso
- very nice to relax, makes it easier to goose the throttle to downshift during braking without letting off of the front brake. Only complaint is the inability to adjust on the fly. Mine is set to work very well for extended 65-75 running. If I'm with a group, or if traffic holds me at 55-60, it's a little high and I'll start getting a cramp in my wrist.

Iso Helmet Locks
- No complaints about these. I have not tried to use the left lock yet, so I don't know if the lid will hit the tank or not. No matter, I'll have a set of 16" apes before my wife ever agrees to get on the back.

Baron Tach - Why did MawKaw not include some kind of tach? $200 pricey, but a very nice beefy housing that works well with the big bike.

Mustang Tank Bib, Kury Brake Pedal Cover, Kury Shifter Cover, F&S Headlight & Spotlight Visors, National Cycle Fender Tips - Useless bling but look great. Would buy again.

F&S Lightbar - Wouldn't ride without aux forward lighting.

Cobra Backrest, Easy Brackets, Willie & Max "Raptor" Saddle Bags and Sissy Bar Bag - Really prefer the look of the bike without them, but needed for utility. Will have to add a cargo rack eventually. Would prefer to remove the pillion & add a fender bib. I don't like how the sissy bar bag ties on... makes the front of the backrest look ghetto. I'm going to fabricate some tabs with threaded inserts to put on the rear of the backrest and thread the sissy bar bag into them with fender washers on the inside, same way the saddlebags mount to the Easy Brackets.
Easy Brackets and the bags had a problem with sagging after a short time. The bags attached in the middle 3rd of the bag with bolts and fender washers, no support at the ends. I cut two lengths of 1/8" x 2 aluminum and put them on the upper inside edge of the bag, sandwiching the side of the bag between the strip and Easy Bracket. No sagging now.
Only complaint on Easy Brackets is the bolt ends sticking out inside the bag... scratched a helmet shield. Should have known, didn't even think about it when I dropped the bag containing the shield into the saddlebag. No matter, I hated the shield, anyone want it Need to Dremel the bolts off by 1/4".

Willie & Max "The Hooker" - It's sitting in my garage, anybody want it? Doesn't fit the way I'd like. I use the D-Rings on the saddlebags for bungee attachment. I bought the Hooker so I could remove the bags and still mount my lunch to the pillion.

$30 eBay Oval Mirrors - Supplied adapters were pretty tall... replaced with Drag Specialties adapters which lowered the arms by about 1/4". Mirror housings are lightweight, I suspect they are plastic with a very good chrome job but I wouldn't swear that they aren't aluminum. Arms are very nice, squared "stealth" style, with a bit more rise than stock so my John Entwistle-like fingers don't hit them when I take my hands off of the grips. A touch smaller than stock, but slightly more convex for a better and more stable field of view.

Caddmann - Love it. No complaints, price was right, though I spent extra on the custom Spectra air cleaner top knobs that I drilled and tapped to work. Also went with K&N filters, so total for the project was probably close to $200, about $250 since I bought a second left-side backplate so I could keep ALL of my stock parts.

V&H BigShots - Sweet pipes. Still good looking after 2000 miles with minimum of care. Heat shields work well, have touched the shields many times with my Levis-covered leg and not even felt the heat.
Wish they were just a TOUCH quieter so I don't have to worry about the neighbors if I decide to leave for work early. May go with Quiet inserts. Still, it will chirp a car alarm every now and then, but I've never set one off.

Cobra Fi2000R - Invaluable. The "R" revision requires no cutting or splicing.

F&S Speedometer Visor - Looks great, easy install, might help reduce glare, but I'm dreading the thought of removing the instrument cover. Could have been designed better with a slightly larger base to attach to the cover instead of the speedo surround.

SpeedoHealer - Another must-have. Easy to install and set up.

Garage Door Opener - Installed inside of left cover with pushbutton switch on the back of the cover. Stealthy and a natural reach for my left hand.

Cobra "Fatty" Highway Bars - 1.5" tubing an awesome match for the 1.5" tubing in the bike's frame. No impact on lean angle (dragged the floorboards twice last weekend). Must have, and a perfect place to hang a set of highway pegs (Kury Magnum 1.5" clamp and offset arm). I used the "Pilot" pegs since the tread pattern reminded me of the wings in the Vulcan 1500 emblem.

Kuryakyn Deep Dish Turn Signal Bezels - Look sweet. Easy way to change the rear lens to red when installing......
Kuryakyn Run/Turn/Brake Controller - Another must-have. Turns the turn signals into running lights (by running reduced current), as well as aux brake lights. Add's two points of light (and the above bezels are BRIGHT at night) to the OEM running/brake lights without having to change the housings and bulbs. Modulates the brake light... 3 quick flashes them on solid.
Drawbacks: Since the bulb is effectively replaced with the circuit, the load equalizer (included) is required to avoid a fast-flash turn signal. The Load Equalizer adds 5 amps... or about 60 watts to an already loaded charging system. When I am waiting at a red light with the turn signals and brake light on, if the fan kicks in, the turn signal goes to fast-flash unless I bump the idle up a bit. The good part is, it is only drawing when the turn signal is on, so it's not stressing the stator during cruise or idling when the signals are off.
There is also a warning to disconnect the load equalizer before using 4-way flashers to avoid damage... PROBABLY due to the added load, which would now be well over 10 amps total with the lamps and blow the main fuse.
Unfortunately, it does not appear that an electronic flasher is available for the 1600.

My only complaint is that with the Easy brackets, helmet locks, and disk lock, I now have three keys dedicated to the bike. Two are the HUGE round "freezer" style keys, and one is smaller, like a computer case key.

I've got too many freaking keys already, and have trouble remembering what is what. I've already twice replaced the hitch locks on a trailer that my buddy and I share because I've misplaced the keys.
I need to start engraving my keys.

Edit: I forgot about two....
Jafrun (eBay) Fork Bag - After receiving this $19 leather bag, I'm glad I didn't buy their $35 saddlebags. The "leather" felt (and even looked) more like cardboard. One mounting strap was nice, the other was half the thickness. The straps that hold the cover closed were so stiff that it was a major PITA to buckle and unbuckle. I mounted it above the headlight, secured to the risers, and above 45mph, the thing flipped up and over the top of the bars, only to drop back into position when I slowed down. Not trusting the thin strap, I removed it and bought the Bell fork bag from Wal Mart.
Nice bag. Soft leather, soft straps, fairly easy to open and close (ya, I'm spoiled with Velcro and quick-releases).
When I added my sissy bar bag, I moved my fork lock and goggles to it, and had no need for the fork bag.
It badly scarred the chrome on the top of the headlight bucket and the chrome plate that covers the space behind the headlight on the 1600.
